...at the thought of eating meat. Has this ever happened to you? I''ve always eaten meat but lately I feel queasy at the thought it. I don''t eat a lot of meat (maybe a couple times a week) so I''m not sure why I suddenly feel such an aversion to it. If this has happened to you, do you know what made you feel that way? I know this is probably a silly question but it''s one of the random thoughts I had this evening and I thought I''d share.

Hi Zoe

I''ve been a vegetarian since age 5 though, so I know exactly why

Seriously though, maybe your body is trying to tell you that''s just not what it wants to be eating right now?

Well, could it be the huge beef recall that happened lately? Because that''s been grossing me out lately! I don''t eat much meat and I haven''t had any since I heard about that! Plus I''m not crazy about chicken, but I do eat it every now and then, and if I get a gross bite of fatty chicken I won''t eat chicken for literally months.
14.gif
I''m hating chicken just thinking about it! Maybe you had a gross bite? Hopefully it''s just that and not that you''re preggo!

P.S. I just had another idea-my boss was just telling me that his wife stopped eating meat about 12 years ago because she was just more and more grossed out by the conditions in which animals are raised and slaughtered.

I''ve never been pregnant, but the first thing that sprang to my mind was being pregnant. I have heard enough stories from friends over the decades to make that the first thing to pop into my head. Could you be? I read you implying that you didn''t want to be. What is your life situation? I know your name and I see your postings, but I don''t know enough about you to know why pregnancy would not be desirable. What is going on in your life?

Have you had a recent experience of food poisoning (or any type of barfing)? Sometimes I think that when you''ve had an experience of food poisoning the body naturally is grossed out by foods that have commonly been sources of food poisoning in humans biological past.

That or there''s a bun in the over!

It happens to me a lot, but I was raised vegetarian and didn''t start eating meat until I was 19, so I think I have some latent veggie tendencies.

The reasons are normally that I''m either feeling gross about my body because I haven''t been eating well or working out regularly, I have a bad experience with meat (getting a fatty bit or something yucky), or I''m grossed out by stories about poor conditions for animals or preparation.

However, we''re going to Morton''s this weekend and I can''t wait to sink my teeth into that Cajun ribeye. YUMMMMM. (Sorry, Zoe, I probably shouldn''t remind you . . . )

I know -- I was kidding. I''ve seen your real name before in an old thread.

Not me. I love me some meat.

AGBF, I''m getting married in July, so if there was a bun in the oven (which there''s not), the timing wouldn''t be good. That''s all. I actually was kidding about the ''please please please let it not be true'' part of my other post. I guess it didn''t come out that way. So, no cause for alarm.

The more I think about it, the more I think it might have something to do with animals being killed and how they''re uh, prepared. I''m sorry, I don''t mean to begin a heated discussion. Most of the time I don''t think about it but lately I have.

If I think about the conditions of the animals or how they are killed, I feel sick too.

Well, perhaps this will pass for you quickly Zoe......good luck!

I''m exactly the same way! I eat most meat, but sometimes chicken just really grosses me out! I''m thinking about working more vegetarian dishes into my diet...

With my third pregnancy the mere thought it meat made me gag. I could not even imagine putting it in my mouth and chewing the flesh. I knew I was pregnant immediately because of that, as I like meat in general.

I eat lean meat for protein, along with fish and egg whites. I am royally tired of chicken but it is easy to prepare so I just deal.

This is exactly how I feel, minus the pregnant part.

This happens to me all the time. I randomly get disgusted with pork. Sometimes I can eat it--sometimes I think about what pigs eat and I get grossed out and can''t. Sometimes milk completely grosses me out (I get it in my head that it''s spoiled or I think of that article someone posted here about it). Sometimes chicken starts to gross me out (the texture). It''s all in my head though, and I usually get over myself though and end up eating those foods again after a while. Cereal even grossed me out for a while after reading someone''s post about the percentage of bug parts in it.

I absolutely cannot eat hot dogs though no matter what. I never have (not since I was little) and I never will. ICK. And ketchup and mustard...ick!

I knew something was up, when eating at a 5 star restaurant on a vacation. I ordered filet, and when it came it make me violently ill. As hubby cut a piece and put it in his mouth to chew, I literally had to leave and go back to our room. All I wanted was veggies and fruits. It also happened that same trip, before knowing I was pregnant, that I smelled fresh brownies out of the oven but did not see them and gagged because I thought I was smelling a manure/dirt type smell! My friend looked at me shocked and told me it was BROWNIES! Now I am fine eating most things, but sometimes meat is tough. My youngest does not like red meat. If I serve it he chews it for a long time but never really swallows it.

Ha, I thought maybe you were pregnant too.
5.gif

PS maybe all of these meat recalls and diseases do not help, they freak me out too!

sorry zoe....I have to confirm that it was also a pregnancy symptom for me. I had to go to the other end of the house when DH would eat meat! Couldn't stand the smell of it while I was pregnant...especially early pregnancy.

That happens to me whenever I hear about meat recalls (the latest big scandal was pretty local for me), and also the documentary "Supersize Me" put me off meat (and McDonald''s fries!!!) for a LONG time. I''m back to "lovin''" it now, though...
20.gif

I didn''t eat meat for about 7 years and have only recently started eating a little, so I often get grossed out by it. The photos/video of the conditions in the plant that led to the recall definitely has me back to strict veggie-ism for awhile. I would have preferred not to see them but they were splashed all over and it was hard to avoid
14.gif

I know some people who own an organic farm and I think I''m going to buy some of their meat to stock the freezer with, because I know exactly how/where the animals are raised and will feel much more comfortable with that. Otherwise, it has to be free range, grass-fed, no antibiotics, and preferably certified organic or I won''t touch it.

The smell of beef cooking has always make me sort of ill...and from the smell of it, one of our neighbors in our condo building cooks a lot of hamburgers...ick. Also, I completely hear whoever said they loathe hot dogs, I would never eat them even as a little kid either (however, I loove veggie dogs, go figure).

Same for me.

I was about 6 weeks pregnant with my second baby and I was at my MIL''s. We hadn''t told her I was pregnant yet and she was sitting at the table skinning raw chicken. Bleah!

me too. It went away about 2 days post partum!

Same thing happened to me when I was pregnant....had to have hubby cook the meat and I had to go into a different room so I couldn''t smell it cooking. I could eat it after it was cooked, just could not deal with it when it was being cooked

If the timing wouldn't be good, I will try not to be disappointed. When I wander over to Family, Home & Health I always get in the mood for babies, though ;-).

Well, It''s happened to me recently and I can 100% say I''m not pregnant.
2.gif
I had just read the latest national geographic''s article on animal cognition and how sheep can recognize faces and read emotions on human faces when hubby suggested going and buying steak for dinner. D@#$ near had to make a mad dash for the bathroom. Sometimes the idea of eating another creature really is nauseating even though I''m normally a meat eater.

Meat adversion was one of my first pregnancy symptoms.

Besides that I go through phases with meat. Sometimes I like it & other times it grosses me out & I cannot eat it. Not sure why, really.
