I have previously posted pictures of my sapphire, but i decided to make a video .

would like any opinions on color and whatever you may notice. Thank-you experts in advance !!

this is taken inside, the sun was on the other side of the building. medium-bright day light, around 3pm. need help describing color of the stone, and inclusions. the stone is very dirty , i apologize . if anybody knows anything but needs a clean stone with better camera job, i will clean it up and get a better clip recorded. you can see some spiderweb looking inclusions at the very end of the video. is this silk?

I don't think that we are allowed to link to youtoob. Don't be surprised if the moderators remove your post. Oh and couldnt judge anything ata ll about the stone from your vid, sorry it was way compressed and pixelated.

I'm sorry but I agree with VL. The video is way too blurry and shaky to see anything. All I can tell is that it's blue! (Also that it's bezel set in a yellow gold ring). I can't see the cut - does it have a window? - the facets, the colour clearly etc etc. Sorry.

just view my old post to see photos with great clarity of the stone.

regards:P

Do you mind sharing the link to your old post? Searches here can be a pain and it’s just a nice convenience to encourage more people to look at it and share their comment(s).

Thanks for the link.

Can I ask a question? What is it that you want to know because you got some pretty comprehensive answers in your previous thread?

If I were to summarise based on what I see it would be as follows:-

1. There's nothing to say that the Sapphire is natural - NEVER EVER take the seller's word for it. Even the very best long standing reputable vendors can be duped. There may be a suggestion of growth lines (as per Michael E's reply to you). If so, this may indicate that the Sapphire is natural but unfortunately still doesn't answer the treatment question and really is only a best guess based on photos. Nothing can replace an expert with a loupe unfortunately!

2. If the gem has been treated, the value of the stone is far less than one that is either just heated or completely untreated.

3. Your sapphire is a steely blue (I agree with your wording). This is not considered to be a top colour and I think you've done some research because you posted photos of a very nice Kashmir gem. The price difference between the two gems will be astronomical unfortunately! We all wish to own one like the Kashmir you posted.

4. Provenence is uncertain.

5. Did you pay a fair price? Yes, because the gold alone is worth $400. So basically you got the Sapphire for free! Always a good position to be in.

If you want a comprehensive analysis of your gem you could take it to a local appraiser. They would be able to loupe the gem, perhaps run some tests and give you a little more information (although some tests i.e. for diffusion they won't be able to do). Unfortunately there's a limit to what more information can be given from photos - sorry.

I have some questions about these inclusions. The "Lines" as i like to call them appear to be spiderweb like. they only go in 1 direction across the stone, they do not exit the stone, they are inside and go across.

The lines only appear under 2 viewing angles, and the stone also shows its zoning from this particular angle being shown.

any other angle and you cannot see the inclusions. Are these lines called silk or bohemite needles?

I own a loupe . and i can see well into the stone. i am having trouble describing what I see.

regards,

Chris

Yes, those lines are probably silk. I say probably because surface scratching can look like silk in a picture. Make sure that the stone is absolutely clean and that there are no surface features which might confuse your examination and then take it outside on a sunny day and look at it up close and personal, (using a small pen light might be even better since you can shine it into the stone from many directions). Silk rarely goes in just one direction and I think that you'll find that in bright light and with a good loupe you should see an entire galaxy of fine silk going in three different directions through that stone...assuming that it is silk. If the fibers are intact, it also implies that the stone has not been heat treated.
