I should start this post off by mentioning that my grandfather was a prolific gem and diamond collector during his lifetime. By the time he passed, he had several boxes worth of stones and jewely just hanging around, mostly diamond but with several very lovely pieces created with sapphires, emeralds, ect...

My grandmother was naturally a recipient of lots of pretty baubles, but it''s been a few years since he''s passed, and since she''s getting older herself, she no longer finds it necessary to wear all of the jewelry he gave her during their life together. A few years ago she started gifting my mother with pieces from her collection, and this year for Christmas, she gave her a very lovely 1.5 carat three stone RB diamond ring in yellow gold (sorry, no pictures).

Well, this was the first year I myself received something from the jewelry boxes (she wanted to wait until I turned 25, as she somehow thinks this is the indicator that one is ready for very fine jewelry, haha).

So on Christmas morning, she handed me a red plastic cup stuffed with white tissue paper. I pulled the stuffing out and saw that inside the cup was another, smaller cup that I used to drink from when I was really young (it''s covered in Disney characters, the ABC''S and 123''s, and that cup was the bomb when I was five). It was also stuffed with tissue paper.

So I started laughing and making jokes with my husband about the cup, telling my grandmother I was going to start using it again, only as a shot glass. She didn''t think that was very funny (she''s very proper), and told me to finish opening the tissue that was stuffed inside the smaller cup.

So I pull the tissue out and notice a very small white box in the cup. I pull the box out and open it, and this is what greeted me:

*Please excuse the bad quality of my pics. My camera is about 5 years old at this point, and the Macro just isn''t what it used to be.*

They were my very own emerald and diamond earrings! They''re set in 24k yellow gold (not my favorite metal, but seeing as they''re an heirloom, I''m not sure I''d be comfortable changing the metal right now).

I''m not sure of the exact weight, but I think each earring is made of 1 carat of emeralds and one .10 RB diamond. The emeralds have visible inclusions (but I think that''s common in a lot of emeralds, right?), but they sparkle like crazy.

There''s a matching ring that was a made a few years after my grandfather gave these to my grandmother. I think that''s coming to me as well in a few years.

It was a very sweet gesture on the part of my grandmother, as I was very close to my grandfather and I don''t have very many mementos to remember him by.

I thought I''d also throw in a newer shot of my wedding set, dirty though it is (actually, dirty is an understatement-this thing is filthy!). I think I should get myself an ultrasonic cleaner, seeing as other cleaners seem to do nothing for my ring.

It''s an asscher, but there''s so much under the stone that you can''t see the windmills very well: I''m a bad ring owner! bad, bad! Someone tell me to go clean her

Lovely fun earrings!

Go clean your beauty, LOL!

Dear Buddha-your new earrings are very beautiful! love the combination w/the little diamonds, they are a beautiful green color, almost like the lawn in the summer!
And, your rings are stunning! Just give them a bath and they will be happier! :O)

Love those emeralds!

Those earrings are beautiful, and is that an aquamarine asscher???
Whatever it is, it''s gorgeous!

Just lovely! It''s tough to keep asschers clean. I''ve had great results with gemcare. I only clean my ring once every few days and it stays clean and sparkly!

Thank you, got2goldens! It''s actually a blue diamond asscher, but I''m quickly developing a desire for an aqua asscher pendant (aquamarine is my birthstone and was the motivation for him to find a blue diamond, as aquas aren''t very durable for everyday wear). I love this stone. It''s a lovely cornflower blue in direct light, and a stunning electric blue when it''s darker. I love it so much!

Thanks for the lovely comments on my emeralds, guys! They''re certainly vibrant in their color-in fact, they remind me of Ireland when I look at them-that really rich grass color of the hills. Gorgeous.

And guess what? I cleaned my rings last night! Yay! Thanks for the advice, Musey. I''ll have to check that out

Like others have already said, it''s so stunning and mesmerizing. The trillions also make it pop. Congrats on such a unique and amazing piece :)

Love the earrings! It''s nice when beauty and sentiment come together in a pretty, sparkly package

And the ring is just gorgeous! I think we all need more info; I''ve never seen a blue diamond that color, or size!

If we all say "Please" may we please have a clean hand shot?

Thank, oneandahalfrock!!

I''ll try to get some new handshots, soon. DH is around right now, and he tends to shake his head and make fun of me when I take pictures of my pretties

Apparently he thinks the charm should wear off eventually-hah! Little does he know....

The specs on my ring are posted in another thread, but I''ll recap with what I can remember: I think the center stone is between .92 and .96, and each trillion is somewhere around .25ish, which makes the carat weight somewhere between 1.3 and 1.4ctw, if I recall properly. The center stone is a VVSI (I think-I have no clue where my papers are! oops!) blue diamond, and the trillions are both H colored, VVS2. It''s set in platinum, and my wband is a 2mm platinum band. I love my set!!

Beautiful earrings!! How sweet of your grandma!!

Beautiful earrings -- what a wonderful family heirloom. I adore your ring. A blue diamond asscher is my dream ring.

Is that a natural colored blue assher? Most blue diamonds have a distinct grey mask to them, even the Hope diamond. You should get it checked out by the GIA (they''re really the only ones best qualified to make this decision) to determine how the color got there, because if that is a natural color, you have something worth a treasure trove. It looks to be a blue green color, typical of irradiated diamonds, but sometimes that can be a natural color as well, and if it is . . . . oh my.

LOVE!

Those are gorgeous pieces! Keep the pictures coming!

I love those earrings, and your ring is always a pleasure to see pics of!
