I should start this post off by mentioning that my grandfather was a prolific gem and diamond collector during his lifetime. By the time he passed, he had several boxes worth of stones and jewely just hanging around, mostly diamond but with several very lovely pieces created with sapphires, emeralds, ect...
My grandmother was naturally a recipient of lots of pretty baubles, but it''s been a few years since he''s passed, and since she''s getting older herself, she no longer finds it necessary to wear all of the jewelry he gave her during their life together. A few years ago she started gifting my mother with pieces from her collection, and this year for Christmas, she gave her a very lovely 1.5 carat three stone RB diamond ring in yellow gold (sorry, no pictures).
Well, this was the first year I myself received something from the jewelry boxes (she wanted to wait until I turned 25, as she somehow thinks this is the indicator that one is ready for very fine jewelry, haha).
So on Christmas morning, she handed me a red plastic cup stuffed with white tissue paper. I pulled the stuffing out and saw that inside the cup was another, smaller cup that I used to drink from when I was really young (it''s covered in Disney characters, the ABC''S and 123''s, and that cup was the bomb when I was five). It was also stuffed with tissue paper.
So I started laughing and making jokes with my husband about the cup, telling my grandmother I was going to start using it again, only as a shot glass. She didn''t think that was very funny (she''s very proper), and told me to finish opening the tissue that was stuffed inside the smaller cup.
So I pull the tissue out and notice a very small white box in the cup. I pull the box out and open it, and this is what greeted me:
*Please excuse the bad quality of my pics. My camera is about 5 years old at this point, and the Macro just isn''t what it used to be.*
