ok so i just saw an asscher my jeweler obtained. he had shown me others but they weren''t close to the classic asscher shape they were squares with the corners cut off as opposed to the octagon shape.
i''ve checked on here for diamonds but the measurements are not the same.

vvs2 he told me i was paying for only a vs1
G
1.01
5.87ish 5.85ish 3something dont remember
70% table i know large
63% depth

the diamond looks great but maybe that''s because he hasn''t shown me anything close to this diamond.
what should i expect to pay for this?

he''s already given me a great deal on the band. i showed him one that i saw for close to 3 grand and he''s making it for 750.

thanks

a couple other details
no flourescense
good polish
good sym

i know it''s only been a few minutes but you people are the best and quick to reply. i just want opinions about the stone. i looked at it and it''s by far the best i''ve seen in my price range.
the whole package should cause about 7K

i just want opinions if anyone has any

Bumping this b/c I also have a question. I have read conflicting things as to at what size an asscher looks good. Some people say nothing under 7 or 8 or...? Anyway, do the 5.5-6mm asschers still look as mesmerizing as the others?

Thanks!

Well, having just seen my sister''s new gen asscher, I really must say that IMO a large table is a detriment to an asscher. The glassy effect of the large table just doesn''t allow the facets to stand out as well.

Kimber, my sister''s asscher is less than 6mm. It''s still nice looking, but I do think it''s one of those shapes that gets more impressive the large it is.

I just got an asscher cut yesterday. Based on seeing a few of them, my suggestion is to definitely compare them side by side, if you have a few to choose from. You can definitely see differences in the fire of the diamond without even looking at the certificate. I had my jeweler follow the asscher cut guidelines and he found me an awesome looking diamond. He showed me another one that had a 66% depth and 61% table and there was no comparison. Mine sparkled a lot more than that. Best is to view them as there are no set specs for asschers, just guidelines. Here are my specs:
1.02
E
VVS2
5.56x 5.52x3.79
depth - 68.7
table - 58
girdle - medium
polish - very good
symmetry - good
no fluourescence
GIA laser inscription on side (don''t know if it''s important but it sure looked cool)

I paid a little more than the usual pricescope prices but given the service I received from my jeweler, I had no problem with it. What setting are you putting it in? $750 for a $3K setting is a killer deal!

too shalllow, table too big --on paper

In an asscher this is what I look for:
depth 65%-75%
Table in the high 50% very low 60% range
table height 10%-15% <-- very important for fire.

Then look for concentric squares in the pattern and the 10 mile deep look under indirect lighting.

octagonal vs clipped square is personal preference I like the squarer shape myself.

Most of them will fail the 10 mile deep look test.
If it dont look like you could fall into it then it isnt right in my opinion.
