My Poshmark pearls--huge baroque Tahitians

As I mentioned in a recent threadjack on @Odyssey44's thread about circle Tahitian pearls, she inspired me to buy a necklace I've been watching for a while on Poshmark. It passed Poshmark authentication and arrived today.

The pearls are enormous! At least, they are to me. They're from about 12mm to about 15mm in diameter measured at their bellies--and because they're baroque, the bellies are their narrow dimension. The longest pearl is 20mm long.

I love these pearls. They have some tails and plenty of imperfections, but the shapes are very pleasing to me. The luster is not as good as it is on my much smaller Pearl Paradise strand that I bought on LT from @Buttercookies, which originally belonged to the legendary @yssie. The overtones are not as pronounced as they are on the PP strand. And the body color is a bit darker. Otherwise, the two strands are very similar. If the PP strand (8.6mm-10.9mm) is a dainty gray house cat, then the Poshmark necklace is a huge gray tiger.

The Poshmark necklace is a full 36" with its clasp. That's an unflattering length on me, but it's perfect doubled. I'm not sure whether to leave it as is or restring it so that when I wear it doubled with the clasp in the back, the fronts of both strands have larger pearls. Or I could get a double-strand clasp and restring it that way. But for now I'm going to keep it as is.

Where on earth will I wear these? They're so much bigger and more in-your-face than I was expecting. Can I just, like, wear them in ordinary daily life?

Okay, photos:

Here they are with the PP strand:

And now some flattering photos in my makeshift lightbox (it's just a white plastic washtub with daylight behind it). There's a pencil in some of the photos for scale, and I put the PP strand in there in some of them too, for comparison.

Those would be daily work wear for me! I don’t think I’d wear them on my super casual days when I’m wearing casual/sport wear but they would work on other days. I guess it depends how you like to dress?

Thanks, Dreamer & Lightbright!

I work in a pretty casual office. It's a nonprofit. The upper management and the people courting donors might wear good jewelry, but my immediate colleagues are usually just wearing their wedding bands (if married) and maybe some silver rings or cheerful (costume) earrings. But since they don't know much about jewelry and they already think I'm a weirdo, I bet they won't really notice this necklace, even though it feels so showy to me.

I work in academia and it sounds like a similar vibe so I don’t “dress up” either and I would wear those pearls daily as well

I think you could pull them off, doubled that way, at your job. They are large but not overly flashy.

So pretty! I would wear that everyday. I love it doubled up. It would work for any style shirt!
Don't worry if they think you're weird. You be you!

OMG ! if i worked with you i would be so excited
i notice everyone's pearls
these new to you ones are FAB-U-LOUS !!!!!

Oh glitterata, CONGRATULATIONS on these circles! So glad they checked out. They look great on you!! Part of the reason I want circled pearls is to wear them with everything--dressed down, dressed up, they can be so much more casual than perfectly round pearls I think. Now, why do you say the 36" is not a good length for you? Let's see a picture. Maybe you are just not used to long pearls. I love being able to wear a long strand of pearls down as well as doubled. I am also fond of tying a knot in my longer strands and letting them hang down flapper style, but this could be tough with larger pearls. Also, when doubled, you can pull one part close to your neck and let the other part hang lower. There are so many ways to wear them. Google for ideas. I say live in these for while. Get used to them. Wear them even in ways you do not like at first and just see. Don't make any changes yet, when you are still getting acquainted.
I am so happy for you!!

Thank you for your kind words and great ideas!

I love long necklaces on other people, but not on me. I'm medium height, stout, and very busty. Long necklaces descend a gentle slope for a long, long time and then suddenly fall off a cliff, making a little peaked tail that wags around when I move. Believe me, it is not a flattering look (hence no photo). It emphasizes proportions I'd rather draw people's eyes away from. And these pearls are much too big to be tied in a knot.

But I will leave them as is, at least for a while, to see if I magically shrink (I hope that doesn't happen--the last time I lost enough weight to even consider a long necklace was because of a serious illness). I do love the way the pearls look doubled, and I like being able to adjust how long each half is.

I love it!

And don’t forget that most people know nothing about pearls so this look is definitely not too fancy. Doubled up looks perfect and I envy this find! Gorgeous!

I wore them to work today. It was a 4-meeting day, and I interacted with about 30 colleagues. Nobody commented on the pearls or even seemed to notice them, so I think I'm safe wearing them to work.

Nothing like a good old reminder of how little other people pay attention to us!

I'm sure they all noticed and appreciated them anyway. How could one not!

HI:

Lovely!! Are they heavy?

cheers--Sharon

The less attention they pay, the better! I always chose invisibility over wings when the discussion turned to superpowers.

DH said, "Why do you think anyone knows those are pearls? I wouldn't have guessed if you hadn't told me."

One colleague in one of the meetings was wearing a lovely reddish-orangish cabochon ring and interesting pearl earrings, and I didn't say anything myself, not wanting to interrupt the meeting.

Thank you! They have a nice heft to them. I sometimes wear several strands of largish carnelian beads together, so I'm used to some heft. I wouldn't want to wear these on a hot day or if I were feeling weak.

I like the sound they make when they click together.

That's funny. I was going to say people not into jewelry only every really notice a big diamond. That's it.
I find when I am wearing pearls I stand up just that little bit straighter, to try to match their elegance. Then I feel more confident. A bonus!

Love this strand. I think ringed Tahitians are perfectly at home in a low key environment. They look beautiful without looking formal and stuffy. Look perfect for casual wear. A very nice tone!
