Wanted to share my story:
I am very fortunate to have a boyfriend who let me pick out my own ring. He was afraid that he would pick something that I wouldn’t like. I would have loved anything he got me. He said since I was the one wearing it and wanted me to be happy, I should choose. His only requirement was that it had to be bigger than my SIL diamond.
After a few trips to the maul to hunt for my ring and after seeing the mediocre stones at ridiculous prices, I knew I could do better. I stumbled upon PS in my search. I did some lurking and learning. Kudos to Jonathan at Good Old Gold for providing a slue of info about diamonds. I learned so much from his site and I thought I knew it all (I read Fred Cuellar’s book How to buy a diamond).
Armed with a budget from my sweetie, I started my search. During one of my trips to the maul store, I tried on a ring that had a trellis setting. I just fell in love with it. I started searching for vendors that sold a similar setting. Few vendors sold the x-prong. I started emailing the vendors and the one that stood out the most was GOG. They were very responsive in answering my questions. Now that I knew they had the setting I wanted, I started searching for the diamond. I was really more concerned about quality rather than size. I found a diamond that met my criteria and budget, but I asked Jonathan if he had any that met my specs. I just wanted to see if he had others in stock not listed. He recommended two, one of them being the one I was secretly eyeing. Little did I know, it was also an Isee2 diamond.
Like everyone else, I was very apprehensive about purchasing such a high priced item over the net sight unseen. After reading all the posts about Jonathan, I knew I couldn’t go wrong. So I told my sweetie I found the one I wanted and he put the deposit down on it.
I initially wanted the Vatche Royal x-prong because I wanted the taper towards the shank. However, after looking at other rings in the forum with the wide shank, I was torn between the two. So we headed off to the local Vatche dealer to try them on. After trying them on, I was very surprised that I liked the regular x-prong better. My sweetie liked it better as well. He wasn’t too fond of the gap that the royal x-prong created with a straight band.
My new precious arrived the other day. I couldn''t be happier. I love it! It’s not official mine yet, but I couldn’t resist trying it on and taking some pictures. Hopefully I won’t have to wait long to wear this little bad boy.
A big thank you to PS. A special thanks to GOG. I received nothing but the best from Jonathan and his staff. They were so helpful and a pleasure to work with in my quest to find the perfect ring.
