Hi guys,
I have been looking for an emerald cut diamond for about 7 months now...I know I may sound like a jewler''s nightmare (and by all accounts I am an AMATURE) ..
Today he called me and faxed me a copy of a GIA report on a stone he found for me.
Specs are: Emerald cut
11.23x7.05x5.26
3.55 carat
clarity VVS1
Color I
Depth 74%
Table 55%
Girdle: Medium
Polish: good
symmetry: Very good

I am in need of an experts advice and please bear in mind that I love the rechtangular proportion of the stone, but the question is :is it a well cut stone?
Is it really worth the K35 he is asking
for it?
what do you think guys, I am truly looking forward to your insight, I have been to this website almost everyday reading your comments and I hope to get your opinion as you''ve given everyone else.
thank you in advance,

I am not expert-perhaps this bump will get some replies but from what little I know of ECs, this seems a bit deep....?

I assume you haven't seen this stone yet. I really don't know much about the emerald cuts either (but I love them). I do know that they show their body color and clarity problems more than round stones -- particularly in larger stones. The clarity here looks great. I think you would have to see the stone to see how the color looks. It's not a guaranteed great color, but color is personal, so look at it and see what you think.

I hope someone can weigh in on the cut question. I'm not an expert. On the AGA charts (www.gemappraisers.com) the table and depth rate in the 3x category. However, fancy cuts are about how they look to your eye, so I think you have to do some legwork -- probably with a variety of jewelers, and look at some stones side by side, in lots of lighting conditions. At the end of the day, make your decision based on what your eye likes best, not just paper specs.

Good luck!
