I''m going to apologize in advance for my less than spectacular pictures. I''m in the midst of moving, so my camera of choice is my blackberry.

And it also explains why my prop of choice is a Cascade bottle.

Anyway, if you have any ideas or thoughts about the origin of this piece, I''d love to hear about it! I know nothing about it''s history!

(Oh and I promise that I will take better pictures of it with my camera eventually!)

I took it by my jeweler today and they tested the diamonds, and tried to figure out the metal. They think it''s some karat of gold, but they''ll find out when we take the clasp to get fixed (it''s been pinched).

Second to last.

Last one. Thanks for looking!

Oh, and it''s about 2.5inches long, and a half inch wide or so. They think the center diamond probably weighs in at .3cts, around 4.5mm.

Very pretty.

I don''t know either, but it''s gorgeous!

Freke, I love it! I love bar pins, very nice. Lovely filigree.

Really beautiful! It looks kind''ve french to me but I''m nowhere near knowledgeable on this!

What''s the cut of the centre diamond, out of curiousity?

No idea about its origins, but it`s beautiful!

Gorgeous! That filigree work is just amazing!

Beautiful bar pin!I''m thinking early Edwardian bar pin in white gold with diamonds.Either American or English in manufacture. Its very striking and should be worn often.

I have no information to add, but I just wanted to say that it''s PURDY!

very pretty Freke!

It''s gorgeous, freke!! LOL about your blackberry pics, they''re FAR better than mine with a real camera!!

Are you keeping it as a brooch or do you have other plans??

very pretty!!!

Not sure about the diamonds but that type of Bar Pin is really common on hunt (fox hunt) attire and womens' formal side saddle riding habits, as well a grand prix dressage clothes today. I have seen a few originals and many replicas like that hunting and doing side saddle ridiing. You use it to lock in the sock tie that is worn with formal riding habits (outfits).

I have horses :)

Very pretty...wear it with pride. I bet it has been on the back of a horse at some point in it's history. Stock Tie pins vary today from very simple affairs (almost like a safety pins) to very formal ones like yours. (But not with real diamonds)

My understanding from hunt history is that very senior female members of the hunt wore diamond/jeweled pins to 'bling' up very boring black hunt habits.

Very pretty.

Thats very pretty! Where did you get it and how will you wear it?

I think white gold became popular in the 1920s BTW.

I''ve been told that it''s an OEC, but also that it''s an OMC. Take your pick.

Yes, I''m keeping it the way it is. I imagine it would look really cool hung N/S from a chain though.

Now for how this ended up in my hands...

...a couple years ago my dad sold a pin very similar to this (3 diamonds, biggest probably .10ct) that had belonged to his mother. He sold it for essentially a roll of pennies, along with my grandfather''s diamond wedding band. It was my only heirloom from his side of the family, and since I was a little girl, I had dreamed of wearing it on my wedding day, and he lied to me about selling it...

I used to ride English so I''m very familiar with riding habits.

I got it off of a certain website attached to a forum we''re not allowed to mention. As for wearing it, I have no idea! Suggestions?

As for the continuation of my story...

..he lied to me about selling it, and I spent entirely too much time looking for a suitable replacement. Believe it or not, there are not a lot of diamond bar pins out there that resemble the one he sold. Then I happened upon this one, and I had to have it. The shape is incredibly similar, with a central diamond and two smaller diamonds on the ends. Now granted, it has a few more diamonds scattered in there, but whatever.

I showed it to my dad today, and he exclaimed, "Where did you get this?!"

So I think I found a good replica.
