My Daniel M piece is ready! :appl: It's prong set with stationary argentium silver chain.

The stone is a gorgeous light smoky quartz Septagon from Osirisgems. I need some quick advice regarding the positioning of the chain.

At the moment the flat side is facing upwards, should I ask to move one end of the chain so the pointy end will face upwards? That's how I always imagine the stone will sit. Your thoughts will be much appreciated.

I thing moving the chain down that much will allow the pendant to flip much easier.

Thanks RH, you're right, that might be a problem.

yup, given the placements of the prongs, it'll have to stay flat side up. It's a STUNNING pendant though - love the design, and I can't wait to see some neck shots! I've heard that quartz isn't easy to polish, but yours looks superb!

Thank you Cellantani, it's reassuring to have you chiming me too, you have a really good eye for settings.

I haven't actually seen the quartz in real life because it was sent straight to Daniel M, but I can say I was mesmerized by its ethereal qualities from the photos, after two unsuccessful auctions I quick snapped this up with a BIN. Daniel M came up with the setting design, I just sent the stone over and asked for a prong set pendant.

Your pendant looks fantastic. :appl:
I am pretty sure that your stone will be perfectly faceted & polished; I've bought a few of Uli's uniquely cut stones and they were all so masterfully faceted/ polished.

What are the measurements of the stone? Is it a biggie?

If you moved the chain, it probably wouldn't flip side to side but I'm pretty sure it would twist up and down. In fact, the weight of the stone, if the chain were in the middle would probably cause the gem to tilt forward - and you don't want that. Have you seen the underside of the pendant? Does it sit on a pice of metal i.e. so the culet of the gemstone isn't touching your skin? If it does touch, it will be prone to spinning/twisting. If the gem sits on top of metal that will sit flat then you'll be fine!

It looks very pretty.

Thank you VR and LD for your compliments.

VR this is my first stone from Uli, I'm sure it won't be my last one! This one is 19mm.

LD I was too anxious to get it soon so I sent my approval last night. However, I want I another septagon shaped pendant, I'll ask Daniel and Caren whether they can set it pointing upwards next time!

Here's some more photos from the listing.

I think it's wonderful!
The stone and the setting ~ I bet you are going to love it!!!!!

The idea of having the point up is visually pleasing but there is the consideration of balance (side to side flipping and up/down flipping). I think it is best to be left as it is. Looks like Daniel did a good job on your pendant.

Thank you ooo~Shiney! and Chrono for your compliments and setting comments.

I'll post some photo once I get it, I think it's a cost effective and a pretty way for setting the septagon shape.

Would I be right in guessing that there are loops soldered to 2 prong members and the chain is permanently attached? I was thinking the chain could be simply threaded through the gallery catching 2 prong bases, and then the point would be at the top and you could change it up as you want.

Re: My first Daniel M & Osirisgems piece, need some quick adv

VL I did thought of that, I'll wear it as it first, and I'm not sure if there's room to thread a chain though, will post about it when I get the pendant, I live overseas so it will probably be next week before I receive it.
