Hello all. I am new here, but this site has provided me with so much information and many ideas. I was wondering if I could get a little help here. My custom, rose gold engagement ring is almost complete. The milgrain still needs to be added and another detail needs to be ironed out...the jeweler mistakenly set my princess diamond as a kite. She said I could take it home for the weekend to see if it grows on me. If it doesn't, she will gladly change whatever is needed. I am on the fence about it as of now. I like the kite setting because it draws the eye to the center stone and it is unique. However, if the diamond was set like a normal princess, it would give the antique appearance that I have always loved. Any opinion would be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Just my opinion, I think it would look better set square, not as a kite. But the important thing is - what do you want? If your vision was to have it squared off and that is a look you've always loved, then you should have it changed. Get what you truly want, even if it will be a hassle to change it. Good luck!!

I am a little worried looking at this that the inside of that halo looks a little sloppy, and it doesn't appear that it will be an exact fit for your stone, either. Can you take some more close up pics for us?

I think it is totally unacceptable as it is and will have to be remade to have the stone fit correctly. That opening is not going to fit your diamond. I am concerned as to whether they are going to make a quality ring for you, to be honest. And absolutely your diamond should be set as you ordered!

Thank you so much for the quick replies. My guy stayed up late last night toiling around with photo shop. The first photo is of the result. I think I do like the square set better. I will be meeting with the jeweler on Tuesday. I'm going to let her know that I do not want all that space between the halo and center diamond. I'm also going to let her know that the halo itself appears a little wonky to me. The second photo is a more close up view.

If it were me, I'd kite set both the diamond and the halo. Also have the halo made to fit better.

I agree with the above posters...the halo should match up with the orientation of the center. Kite set would be nice as it would be more eye-catching and unique (if you prefer that) or the traditional orientation. Either way though, the halo should sit much neater against the center stone.

I agree with Andelain. If you like the idea of kite set, I'd want the halo to be kite set and more snug around the borders of the diamond as well. I love the rose gold! :))

It almost looks like they plopped this diamond into a halo that was made for a round or cushion shaped stone. There is no way this setting was made for your princess. If this was mine, I'd tell them it was unacceptable and ask for my money back, because I am not sure they have the skill level to really make you a nice quality setting. We can suggest other ring makers for your project that will do a much better job than this.

Well, diamondseeker2006, that could be partly my fault. I did tell her that I wanted a round halo. I'm not sure how much work it will be for her to reshape the halo. But I will see when I go back in a few days. Thanks again all for your comments.
