I am sooooo excited right now and wanted to share!

So I mentioned my coworker months ago who was planning on proposing to his gf of 3 years but decided against it for his own reasons. I haven''t brought it up since because if there''s anyone that knows about nosy coworkers putting the pressure, its me.

Anyway, he sits right next to me and pops his head into my cubicle. He says "are you busy" and I reply "no"

So he asked if I could take care of something for him and hands me a folder. I''m thinking maybe he''s giving me some of his test work to review (I''m his senior). When I opened it, there was a stack of print-outs of different engagement rings that he put together himself

with a note that said "opinions please"

EEK!

Eeee!!! That''s so exciting! What types of rings does he have picked out???

All pave. Someone likes pave

He went for platinum on all the settings but I also know he has a budget and because he went for platinum, its sacrificing the size and characterisitcs of the stone. She has these itty bitty fingers (I think 3.25) so no problem with finger coverage

but I think he can do a little better on the stones if he goes with 18K instead of platinum. JMO. He has a Zales page thrown in there. I put a red stamp that said "Denied" HAHAHA

How cute! Tell us more. Are they halos, any sidestones, any interesting use of colour?

No Halos. I was surprised to see him mix princess with round side stones. All of the settings have the round side stones.

I think he was focusing more on the setting than the actual diamond because the colors vary big time. There was one with a .30 center stone, D. And another with a .89 center stone, J. So I gave him a little run down on diamonds without going into too much detail so that he doesn''t get scared LOL.

hahaha!!! Good one!

This guy sounds real sweet to have his own folder all made up. How cute!

Love that you "denied" the Zales.. LOL

So cute he has them printed out and is asking for your opinion!

Too cute!! That sounds like a fun project for you.

What a fun "assignment"! He''s lucky -- he''ll get so much helpful advice from you. Love that you put the denied stamp on the Zales page... ha ha ha! I agree on the 18K, by the way.

What a fun project! (Glad to know you''re so productive at work!

Too cute! I couldn''t imagine my boyfriend doing that! Dumb questions: Is there something wrong with zales? How about Roger''s Hollands? What are good stores? Thanks for the info!

Aww~ Adorable! Throw them up here!! We'll give him all the opinions he needs!

Wow! He is smart to come to you. Does he know you''re a PS''er?
Perhaps you could present HIM with a dossier of what you would get for the money... do you know his budget?

Oooh, fun! I love the "Denied" stamp, too!

I''m meeting up with a friend of mine next week and we''re taking a trip to a local independent jeweler to check out e-ring settings for his girlfriend. I can''t wait!

Zales, Jared's, Kay's, etc. all pretty much have the same reputation here. You could do WAY better by doing research and then either going to an independent jeweler you trust or going through a PS vendor (like Whiteflash, Good Old Gold, Pearlman's, The Art of Platinum (Leon Mege), Maytal Hannah, Wink Jones, Knox Jewelers, just to name a few).

Good Old Gold and PS have great tutorials on diamonds. You'll learn a lot and you'll find that going to any type of mall jeweler is not a good idea. The quality of what they have is horrible, and many sales associates don't understand diamonds themselves.

Fiery, I agree, that sounds like a fun project! Have you told him about PS?
