I just got my 9mm portugese cut rose de france type ammy in the post, along with two 5mm chrysoberyl pears, and I thought it was time for a photoshoot!

the chryso pears are for my wedding earrings - though now that I've gotten them I think they are a little small - and the chryso rounds are a small 3mm round-diamond cut meant for my wedding band. the ammy I have plans for - but I'll leave it for some time yet.

my e-ring suffers in this light - the green sapphire gets dark in bright white light, but it makes a good contrast with the chrysos, I think.

thanks for letting me share!

Sonya - they are lovely. How do you plan to set the pears? :appl:

Very pretty. They are great colors.

Very pretty! The pears look good size to me for earrings -- they would make really nice drops, with maybe round stones above them. What a super idea for a wedding ring! I can't wait to see it -- hurry, hurry.

Ohhhhh - I love the Portuguese cut! All of the stones have such pretty colors - can't wait to see them set!

you are all so kind!

BlingObsession and JewelFreak, I'm a little undecided about the pears. I always forget how big stones look like in photos - so I wasn't expecting it to be quite so small.. Initially the plan was for a halo to match my e-ring. But I think it needs a bit more pizzazz now - maybe I would set it as a cluster of stones (which means I have to buy more, of course :naughty: ). in general I know small studs are fine (I don't wear drop earrings, after wearing far too many in high school!), but I wear large vintage earrings on a daily basis, so these would definitely get lost on my lobes.

and for the purple, I was thinking of doing something like mary-kate olsen's ering! I had this zap of an epiphany when I saw it! looks like an expensive project though, so I'd take suggestions for how I can make it less expensively... :twirl:

Mary Kate's e-ring is surrounded by a ton of metal, so I don't know if its possible to make something like that inexpensively, with metal prices these days. It looks to be very intricate as well, so it's not going to be easy to make it that inexpensively, and have it come out "right" IMO.

I figured it would go somewhat like that, sigh. my second choice is a design like this, though definitely without the buckle at the side (which I think is too chunky): http://www.annasheffield.com/products/champagne-quartz-eleonore-cocktail-ring

I'm thinking of setting the tiny chrysos in gypsy's aurora band style with diamonds for a wedding ring, but still considering if it's too chunky!

What is your definition of inexpensive? Given the size of the amethyst and the intricate design of the ring (a lot of accent melees and lots of metal), I'm not sure how much and where it can be pared down without losing too much of the original inspiration design.

If you can't go any bigger with the pears for earrings, the only other option is to add a stone above each pear or halo the pear.

Can it be set in silver to keep the cost down?

Oooh! I love the amethyst. SOOO stunning.

I think I will go this way - although I wonder if silver is a little cold for the amethyst? I feel like it would be amazing in gold.

as for inexpensive, I have no gauge about how much this would cost, or how much I would want to spend on it.. I'd probably go for a simpler design but I'll save the worrying for later when I finally decide to set it!

thanks all for your suggestions

:D

thank you! :naughty: initially, jeff had said the portugese cut might not work out well for the stone, but I'm so glad I stuck with it!

chrono, I think the add a stone above is a good idea, though the halo would directly match my e-ring. I'm actually thinking of buying more of those tiny chryso rounds and making a cluster earring - but have you seen any design that would still show off the singular pear?

Beautiful
I love all your stones and your e-ring is stunning.

A cluster of rounds would be fantastic; hopefully you can find a well matched parcel.
