hi all,

I got the CAD for my 10 yr upgrade. What do you think? Not sure about the prongs and how low it sits. I specifically asked to sit the stone as low as possible to avoid possibly scratching the kids and getting caught in anything. I'm also unsure of the round basket.. would a square basket be better?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I think the round basket suits it well and the prongs are not as bulky as the CAD appears.

I don't think it is too low. Should be beautiful.

Who is making it for you?

I agree that the round basket makes sense with the round center stone. It looks like the stone is lower than the prongs? Is that just the CAD rendering, but the stone will be "flush" with the prongs? Otherwise, I think it's lovely! When should you have it?

Thanks.. this if my first CAD so I'm not sure how accurate a depiction it is compared to the actual ring. I'm getting it made through a custom jeweler called Roger Watson.

I wondered about the prongs as well and will ask him about that. He says it should be ready in 2 weeks. I am agonizing over the wait.

I love the overall look of it. I am not sure about the prongs though. they sort of look like they are sticking up above the stone. But someone said that in real life they should not be as bulky. Otherwise I like the basket and how low the setting is.

Congrats

Ask the manufacture / CAD designer if the images are "finished product" or "pre-polish". Judging by the sharp corners and lack or radius I suspect it might be a pre-polish design. When I got my design, they provided pre-polish. After it is casted they softened all the edges.
Included in the finishing process, they will likely file the claws down so they don't stick up as high.

Ask the manufacturer.

That design is fantastic! It's a beautiful ring!

ditto everyone's comments about the prongs. It's a lovely design.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents, your ring looks like it will be lovely...From what I have seen here CADS are generally much bulkier, and wil not give the "exact" depiction, and usually has more metal showing than the finished product. I imagine your ring will be beautiful! Can't wait to see the pictures!

thanks everyone for your feedback. I feel so much better already. I really don't know what I would have done without PS throughout this whole process. I think I am still lusting after a BGD piece and wondered whether I made a mistake and not gone with them. I know that this would not have been financially feasible and don't think DH would have gone for it but I'm just nervous now that it's coming to a head. This jeweler is a very reputable local jeweler and known for their custom design so I'm sure they'll do a great job. I just have to move on and "settle" on getting another piece from BGD

Once the ring is polished, it will look great! What does your wedding band look like?

My wedding band is just a thin channel set.. but I was thinking of not wearing a band at all since this ring looks like it has 2 bands. I have very short fingers so I'll have to see what it will look like with the band. I am also saving up for the BGD sapphire & diamond ring to possibly wear with this ring.

I like it a lot as is. Would not wear a wedding band with it, it is a stand alone ring IMO.

Don't worry about the prongs - they need to be higher than the stones in order to provide leverage for closing down. After setting, they will be trimmed nicely. Just remember that the CAD is used to create the model, compensating for some shrinkage during casting, stone setting, polishing, etc. It is not a rendition of the finished piece.
