This site is an amazing resource. I've been lurking on here for a few weeks and I can't believe how uninformed I was when I started looking at diamonds.
I will be purchasing a loose diamond online, I have it narrowed down to a few using what I've learned so far. My question concerns having it mounted by a local jeweler.
The stone will be round and approx. 0.5 ct. The ring she likes is a tension setting from Spence Diamonds in 19 carat white gold (I almost bought a diamond from them until I found this website and realized how outrageous their prices are).
Spence will only mount a diamond purchased from them so I have to find a 3rd party to put it all together for me. What questions should I be asking the jeweler beforehand? I have read that I should only choose a jeweler willing to assume liability for the stone while they are working on it but everyone I've found in town (Calgary, AB) refuses to accept liability.
How likely is damage to the stone, should I consider insurance?
Are there any specific concerns related to it being a tension setting?
What is a reasonable price for the mounting? (let me know if i haven't provided enough info to answer this one)
Any chance there is a member on here that can recommend someone in Calgary??
Thanks
