So BF and I went to look at mokume gane rings tonight (ahem.. soon to be FI

) and I was quoted $2000-$2500. Is this pretty average? This was for all golds too.

I think it sounds about right...I love Mokume Gane! What kind of styles are you looking at?

i, too, love mokume! as in all things there is something for every budget but i''ve seen some low end mokume that looked, well, low end. are you looking at a particular designer?

Well, we weren''t going to buy right now, but while we were getting my pendant the other day we started talking about mens bands and how BF barely likes anything. SO, then I said, "What about those rings that have all different colored metals in them??" Jeweler was like, "Yeah! Mokume Gane!" I''m like, "Yeah.....!" So we went last night to look at some samples by a designer named... mark.. something. I''ll grab some pictures from the webite. They are going to get a few more bands in this week to take a look. If he is getting a $2000+ band he had better wear the darn thing!! They are SOOOOOOOO COOL though. :D

And I got the designers name wrong.. Micheal Daniels.

It's hard to tell but my favorite one, is the last one. The mokume part of the ring is matte, and then on each side there is a band that is not matte. I would like this in the version in the 1st picture, if that makes sense (But that's just me, BF loves ALL of them). The top ring is about $2600, the bottom one is $1900

Might be a lot cheaper ... Peggie is great!

i''m a george sawyer fan for mokume.

i like the last one the best, too.

why do women think its ok to spend $5000 on a diamond but when a man wants a $2000 wedding band she gasps?! sorry to put you on the spot and i don''t mean it personal toward you....but it does seems that many times women just don''t get it that men really do want something nice, too. my hubby eventually wants a george sawyer mokume band to replace the original we got married with.

i was in lust with a mokume solitaire e-ring at one point and even contacted the sawyer shop about setting my spess. i also see a mokume wedding band in my future at some time!

I bought DH's tri-gold mokume gane wedding-band from Andura Designs - www.anduradesigns.com

I don't recall exactly, but it was about the $2k mark.

Still it cost less than mine so I can hardly complain!

We wanted something fairly subtle, so the alloys were made so as not to give too much contrast.

Ya know, honestly, I didn''t think he would even care what he got!! But as we started looking for stuff for me, we would check out the guy rings too. He hated everything. I am all for him getting a $2000 ring if it''s what he wants and he''ll wear it ;) After we looked at the rings he said, "Hmmm nice ring or huge tv and xbox 360...??"

But yeah. It''s a good point you make. I also think it has something to do with all of the guys in my family never wore rings, my dad, grandfather and uncle (all on the same side) never wore rings. I kind of grew up thinking most guys didnt

(and, they didn''t wear rings because of their jobs, which they all shared, and eventually got used to it)

I think that ring was the first time I saw mokume gane rings!!

We are looking at all gold rings, but I was wondering about the sterling rings w/ gold that people make. Does just part of the ring tarnish then??

check it out: i love the way a ring changes over time with the silver mixed with gold. i saw one on a guy and it was so lovely, it looked better than the new ones!

check out the sawyer website for more info and ideas.

love love love mokume!

I love those rings!

DH had to have a band with diamonds, his reasoning was that if I get to wear diamonds then he needed some too. Well, he never wears that one, and instead wears a $100 titanium ring. He''s afraid of "messing up" the diamond ring!

I say if he says he''ll wear it, then go for it!

At the time we bought his wedding band, Chris Ploof was the least expensive that DH liked.

I''ve never seen mokume gane before!!!!

Too cool!!!

I love the look! Here is a beautiful infinity design e-ring I saved for future ideas, I am thinking it would make a good anniversary ring someday.

My Ering is a Mokune Gane and I love that it is one of a kind. It is extremely important that you be measured correctly for this ring since it cannot be sized afterwards.
