Hello dear PSers!
Recently going through old family jewelry, I discovered my grandmother's ring which has two identically sized OECs.
Can Old European Cuts be mixed with a modern cut diamond? I haven't found any info online about it.
This would be for the creation of a 3-stone E-ring, with a modern brilliant in the center.
The OECs are probably not the best cut and quality, but my grandmother means more to me than something exceptionally shiny. To be able to incorporate her memory in a piece of jewelry I'd wear everyday would truly be wonderful.

Is this gemologically sound?

It'd be fine to mix the stones, it has nothing to do with them betting sound, just if you like the look or not. What colour are the OECs? Would you be colour matching or getting a different colour centre?

A friend of a friend of mine has a mixed three stone ring. Sounds bad, but she's a classmate of a friend of mind from church so I've seen her and her ring a few times. I absolutely loved it and asked her about it since I noticed one of the stones in particular looked like an older cut. She was glad to share the history with me.

IIRC the center stone is an OEC from the late 1800s. One of the side stones is a transitional type cut from the earlier 1900s. They were both family stones. To complete her 3 stone ring the jeweler did his best to match the transitional cut with a modern RB. Obviously it isn't a H&A stone or anything like that, but it complimented the others beautifully. They set it in an under wire setting. From the top they look perfect together. From the side you can see the different crown heights but the overall look is stunning!

So I would go for it and see what you think! I really liked the look of effectively the opposite as to what you want to do.

It would certainly be a unique ring, and I think if executed well it would be an absolutely gorgeous, sentimental piece

It wouldn't be to my taste but that's just an opinion. ;))

Could work if you like it.

I personally don't favour the look, but if you can compare the stones next to each other before setting an have an appropriate style of ring made, than it could work - what do you think of the look of them together?

I've seen them done (cant remember though if we have pictures in our archives),and when done right, could be GORGEOUS!

Consider color though - the color of the RB needs to be the same as the OECs to its a seamless look unless you are going for the contrast? If so, then I would suggest at least 4 or 5 color grades apart to really see the color difference.

kinda like, you mean a K-L alongside some E-F's.. :Up_to_something:  :D

Thank you so much for all of your help.
As it turns out, I can't have/use the diamonds. Sad metaphyiscally charged story.
But thank you, again!
