It''s all across the board, according to size, color, clarity, cut and antiquity value (if any).

Only a professional looking at it firsthand would be able to tell you anything.

If you post some good pics you might get a few more responses.

Rich has even been known to slip up and foolishly gave away a more-or-less professional opinion for free here!

The "more or less" depends on how many glasses of wine I''ve had.

Garry and I both tend to become more of an authority after the 3rd glass of so...

If i appraise old mine cuts I am much more friendly to them if they are ''insitu'' or in an original setting rather than a new one.

As a rule for loose or stones in new mounts we apply around a 30% lower value, or a quick recut weight and value estimate and take the higher of those values. But each case is done on its merits, and because of the lee-way, we may not be as consistent as we would be with modern stones.

I know a lot of consumers and others get emotional about old cuts, but the fact remains that if there was really strong demand they are very easy to manufacture and they return great yeilds. If demand was great - then there would be a industry supplying new old stones - and no-one could tell the difference - no-one.
