mine cut diamond

I am considering this diamond on ebay...wondering if mine cut diamonds shine very much?? Is this a fairly good deal?

PLATINUM and one of a kind. Set with a .60ct Genuine MINE CUT Diamond in teh center that is SI1 F and top grade. Flanked by 2 other diamonds at .03ct that are all original and old mine cuts as well. Rare find and all ORIGINAL. Over 100 years old. Stunning MINT piece and just mesmorizing.

Old Mine cuts can be quite brilliant - but this is not the norm: most look like some deep, asymetrical cushion and do not sparkle all that much. Given the imperfect picture (to put it mildly - actually I can't make the shape of the stone at all) there is not much one can say about this stone in particular.

And those grades are the seller's judgement, right? This is common practice for these pold rings. Another common practice was the use of low color diamonds in such smaller rings - I would expect M color or lower as more available among old mine and old European cut diamodns. This matters little if you do like the ring regardless, but can easily change the impresison on the price from bargain to, well, not all that much of a bargain.

This is much of what I would keep in mind muself shopping Ebay. All in all, the return policy of the seller is what should hold by all means - you can always ask the opinion of a professional in the meantime and act acordingly.

As a general rule, I would expect these old diamonds to be about 15-20% less than the price per carat of a GIA certified modern stone (anything but a premium cut) of the same grades. Since old mine diamonds are sometimes very deep (and thus small-looking relative to their modern peers of similar weight), there may be some discount bringing the price down to what a modern cut of same size (rather than weight) would cost. Hence the aparently bargain pricing.

For example, the last matching "case" I remember was a 0.9cts. G-VS old miner, 82% deep that went for about 2k - the stone looked as large as 0.7 round and the price reflected just that.

Actually, there is a prominent streak in the middle of the stone that could be a huge inclusion - if not, I'd rather have some proof.
