Hi all, I have been coming here for information for a while now (mostly to read about antique cuts) but have come upon a problem with my wedding band/insert and decided to make my first post. Or rather, a long rant. Please let me apologize in advance.
First off, my husband bought a beautiful ering with tiny bead set diamonds going down each side from Ben Bridge. The ring is very dainty and sparkly and I Love it, but the wedding band that came with it was less than thrilling, so for our first anniversary, my husband bought me this insert from Helzberg:

It was the only thing that I had ever seen that matched the tiny-sized diamonds in my ering, every other ring had larger diamonds which overpowered it completely. I was thrilled to get it, but after wearing it I soon noticed that the melee diamonds in the insert were flat and dull compared to my beautiful sparkly ering melee diamonds.
I know he overpaid for the insert, but that was okay with him because I was so excited to finally see something that complimented the ering. What is disappointing is that once the ring was out of the special lights in the store, it was almost lifeless. It's frustrating because it is partially my fault for being duped. I never expected that they would put such poorly cut diamonds into a piece of "wedding" jewelry, especially since Ben Bridge's melee diamonds were so beautiful.
Right now we are dealing with the ring being repaired a third time since the gold has repeatedly cracked (apparently because they sized it down from 7 to 5). The whole hassle with the ring has just caused me to be even more dissatisfied with the diamonds and I'm thinking about trying to find the same thing somewhere else, but with well cut melee. Either that, or asking them if they can replace the diamonds. According to their policy, though, it seems like that would have to be a purchase costing twice the original amount. We'll have to wait and see.
I am at a loss. There are plenty of places you can go to choose a larger diamond, but where do you go to get well cut melee? Would I be better off shopping for the whole ring custom made? I am stuck with this ring either way, so I'd like to salvage it, but not sure if it's possible. I may just have to live with it until I can afford something else.
Next weekend we go to pick it up from repairs and talk about possibly getting a replacement. Although their customer service has been friendly and accommodating, I'm not sure how honest they will be since, when I went in there last, the salesperson told me that the clarity of the diamonds was I1 to I2 and said, "oh yeah, those are good!"
