Anyone have any info on this instrument? Just had appraisal done with it and other equipment. Diamond came with GIA, Megascope used with AGS standards, will this ever create a problem with stones true evaluation? Some of the diamond''s descriptions differ slightly.

If you have the Megascope report you are receiving the proper information for your diamond.

While GIA reports are one of the needed pieces of information in a diamond purchase, they leave out critical information with regard to the exactness of the diamond cut. As you know, cut is the most critical of the C's. The Megascope provides you with these needed proportions.

AGS uses a Sarin to measure the cut proportions of stones under evaluation. While some PS experts feel that a Sarin uses a superior technique to measure stone proportions, the Megascope still provides you with what you need. Keep in mind that no two proportions analyzers are identical, neither are multiple measurements of the same stone on the same machine. While small differences between machines will emerge, these are most always moot points.

Consider the Megascope as a needed accessory to the GIA specs. Its addition is the only way to get a full assessment of your stone, and that is what making an educated diamond buying decision is all about.

The SarinCompany holds a patent on the methodolgy it uses to photograph and measure the stone. Sarin''s new software is awesome, and I think future with their software is of great potential.

Megascope can''t use this - which is why a lot of the former megascope folks have gone to Sarin.

I am really curious to see how Sarin handles the new GIA and AGS grading systems.

GIA isn''t covered in the New Sarin DiaPro software, while most of the other labs like AGS, HRD and EGL do have "templates" for their grading systems in the New Sarin software.

Maybe it will be.

We''ll see...
