Kristall of Smolensk (one of the biggest Russian diamond manufacturer) has presented a new system designed to measure "appeal coefficient" of the diamonds. According to Kristall deputy director Mr. Bocharov it may cause a revolution in the diamond grading system. The system was demonstrated by Victor Baranov, director of the Laboratory of Scientific-Research Institute of Experimental Physics of the Russian Nuclear Center.
Developers of the system have introduced an intergraded factor of subjective perception of a diamond – named "charm". It is determined by measuring the known constituents of a diamond’s brilliance – intensity, dispersion, sparkle, etc. The system mathematically processes large number of the diamond images taken from different angles. It also takes into account standard characteristics of the diamonds (carat weight, color, clarity and cut).
