And you thought "The Host" was just a D-grade movie(s).

While all eyes are understandably focused on the national scene, this is the sort of thing going down every single day in the retrograde hinterlands. Our legislators spend all their time thinking of ways to make sure that Jesus is given top billing in government, oppress gay people and women, make sure that the poor have no health recourse but to die off at a clip, and that there are insufficient funds to pay for any function of government. Except their own salaries, of course.

Oklahoma Anti-Abortion Lawmaker Says Women Are Merely ‘Hosts’
http://nymag.com/thecut/2017/02/oklahoma-anti-abortion-lawmaker-says-women-are-hosts.html?mid=fb-share-thecut

Link that is the very detailed source of the shorter article above, and the truly jaw-dropping quote below.
https://theintercept.com/2017/02/13/oklahoma-lawmakers-want-men-to-approve-all-abortions/

"Ultimately, he said, his intent was to let men have a say. “I believe one of the breakdowns in our society is that we have excluded the man out of all of these types of decisions,” he said. “I understand that they feel like that is their body,” he said of women. “I feel like it is a separate — what I call them is, is you’re a ‘host.’ And you know when you enter into a relationship you’re going to be that host and so, you know, if you pre-know that then take all precautions and don’t get pregnant,” he explained. “So that’s where I’m at. I’m like, hey, your body is your body and be responsible with it. But after you’re irresponsible then don’t claim, well, I can just go and do this with another body, when you’re the host and you invited that in.”"

Yee haw, y'all. Welcome to my particular hell.

I never got the saying "I have no words". Until just now. I HAVE NO WORDS.
Actually I have plenty of them but none of them acceptable for a civilized audience.

Karen, how could you have posted this and not printed out this part?

"On Tuesday, the Oklahoma state legislature will hold a hearing on a bill that would require a woman seeking an abortion to first get written permission from her male sexual partner. In an interview, the Republican lawmaker who authored the bill explained that a woman’s body, well, simply isn’t her own. Instead, a woman’s body is merely a 'host.'"

She would have to get written permission from her male sexual partner?

Uh...wake up, hinterland! You may have fantasies, but they are not reality. Roe v. Wade is the law of the land!

Let's just be darned sure Gorsuch never makes the court!

What a sickening quote. I agree with Missy that I don't have words for this. :nono:

Re: Meanwhile, in the hinterlands, knuckles get more calluse

*sigh*

I think that's enough internet for today.

Re: Meanwhile, in the hinterlands, knuckles get more calluse

It's disgusting. I mean, it's obvious so many of them feel this way, but to feel emboldened enough to say it out loud is sad and, ultimately stupid. Because women are such an insignificant voting block.

Sorry, cowboy. Until men can also be "hosts," they don't get final say. How does that joke about 'if men could get pregnant..." go?

Re: Meanwhile, in the hinterlands, knuckles get more calluse

Politicians' creativity on this subject never ceases to amaze me. :nono: :nono:

Re: Meanwhile, in the hinterlands, knuckles get more calluse

Saw this yesterday but it was so awful that I admit, I was too tired to deal with it.

It's bad out there. SO BAD.

Reading this made my vagina snap shut like a steel trap. Also, if we are now referring to women as "hosts" I guess it's cool to call embryos and fetuses "parasites" after all.

Re: Meanwhile, in the hinterlands, knuckles get more calluse

Karen, I deliberately did not post that yesterday because I knew you wouldn't be able to resist commenting and I was trying to be respectful of your desire to limit your exposure to PS rei publicae arte (hope I got that right, translation isn't my forte). I couldn't get any deeper into any of the articles other than the headlines and the first couple of lines. I thought my head was going to explode.

There've been a lot of snarky comments on PS lately about the liberals showing their true colors in the contentious threads but a lot of crickets chirping about the cockroach republican politicians who feel empowered to display their idiocy in daylight via the carte blanche approval of scrotus.

F*king WOW.

But help me out here - are they pro-choice if it is the man's choice? Is it just a fetus parasite being hosted and not a cutie pie innocent baby if the MAN doesn't want it? And how would it work, can you get any guy to give written permission or do you have to wait 10 weeks to take a prenatal paternity test?

What problem is this solving? Where can I find the next march of men whose sexual partners terminated a pregnancy even though they desperately wanted to rear a child on their own for 18 years? When was the last one?

You can find the next march on the corner of Doesn't Exist and Nowhere in Imaginationville, and the last one took place in Rovebruary, Eleventy Hundred and None. :wavey:

Republicans run amok elsewhere in the hinterlands...Tennessee is seeking to make children born through artificial insemination illegitimate. Short version below. Google search will yield more in-depth info. So if we want to capsulize what's happening nationwide: defund Planned Parenthood, no insurance coverage for birth control for businesses who cite religious reasons, no abortions, hosts must germinate parasites, some of the children born of hosts may be illegitimate (esp. if born to same-sex couples)...

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/02/tennessee-gop-bill-says-children-born-through-artificial-are-not-legitimate/
A bill filed by a Tennessee Republican aims to make children born through artificial insemination illegitimate.

WMC reported that state House Representative Terry Lynn Weaver is sponsoring HB 1406 to repeal Tennessee current statute, TCA 68-3-306, which declares that children born through artificial insemination are the “legitimate” child of the mother’s husband.

The text of the new bill says it immediately “repeals statute that deems a child born to a married woman as a result of artificial insemination, with consent of the married woman’s husband, to be the legitimate child of the husband and wife.”

Last year, Weaver was one of 53 GOP lawmakers who got involved in a same-sex marriage divorce that dealt with the custody of a child born through artificial insemination. Weaver and the other lawmakers asserted that the lesbian wife of the child’s mother should not be considered a “legitimate” parent under the current statute.

Jesus Mars Christ.

So now we have "legitimate parents" and "legitimate children".

WTF is wrong with these people.
