Everyone seems to know what is best for Iraq... should we pull out as top Liberal want? Or should we "stay the course" as Reuplicans suggest. Why don;t we ask those that are there what they think... very novel idea if you ask me...

Sounds like a good idea on the surface, but I don''t think many would be very positive about the prospects once fear of retribution is gone.

I have been waiting for the government to ask the troops... but the truth is I don''t think most of them care. At this point it all seems like a lost cause and everything is so confused over there. I have a very negative view on the military and the way it is run, though. Seeing them work first hand really changes your view. But I hope that whether or not they ask the troops they start sending them home so that families are able to finally let out a sigh of relief.

A friend of mine has a husband (also a friend) who just came back from Iraq. Now, he doesn''t speak for all of the troops, but his opinion? He feels he''s been deceived. He thinks we''re there for the wrong reasons, and he''s so happy to be back.

Ebree: I am so glad that your friend''s husband returned safely home. I hope they all stay just as safe! I think a lot of troops feel deceived as well. I''ve heard a few accounts of that, and a horrible story from one of my teachers who has a military friend and the war has affected him psychologically. I hope all of this is over soon!

I hear from 5 or 6 people over there in any given week.
It really depends in what area they are in how it is there.
In the majority of the country things are pretty calm and they spend most of the time helping people build and re-build and training the locals.
If trouble makers show up they usualy get lots of warning from the locals.

In other areas its a hell hole and the politicians wont let them do what needs to be done.
Less than 1% of the country is a problem the rest of it is coming along ok.

Yea... it''s just too bad it seems like they are NEVER going to let them come home. I don''t know how their families handle it. Or how the troops handle it either.

Interesting article! That''s basically what I''ve heard from the only soldier I know personally who''s been there, but I wondered if that was the general consensus.

Obviously the military is not a democracy, and what to do isn''t decided by the soldiers themselves, but it''s definitely interesting to hear their views.
