Hi,

I am looking to have an Art Deco ring replicated and I am wondering if anyone here has worked with Maxim Semyonov. He is a custom jeweller on Fifth Ave in the Diamond District in NYC. What are your opinions? Does he really do superior work?

Also taking recommendations of skilled craftsmen...

Whereabouts on 47th is he? I haven''t worked with him, but I''d like to take a look at his work.

Have you checked out Leon Mege? I don't know whether he does replicas as his passion seems to be design, but his craftsmanship is exquisite.

And if it doesn't have to be in NY, Singlestone in LA does beautiful antique replicas.

Do check Leon out, per Neatfreak''s suggestion. He''s making an Art Deco ring for me currently.

Thanks everyone. I am very familiar with both Leon Mege and Single Stone. I like both their work, but have issues with both. Leon doesn''t really do the type of antique Art Deco work I am looking for, and Single Stone is in LA and I don''t think my boyfriend will be interested in working with someone outside of NYC.

I appreciate your input!

If anyone has any experience with Maxim or knows of a great custom jeweller in NYC, please let me know!

Thanks!

Harriet, you''ll like this description. I am way intrigued! No website that I can find, darn it.

Maxim Semyonov
2 West 46th Street, Suite 309, 212-819-9408

Above the arcades that blanket the diamond district, countless bench jewelers, setters, and polishers—the “machinery” of the trade—still toil anonymously in snug rabbit warrens. One such craftsman is Maxim Semyonov. Born in Russia, he learned his trade from one of Fabergé’s jewelers. If you’ve lost an earring, he’ll make the mate; if you saw a dazzling one-of-a-kind brooch in a magazine, he’ll copy it. He can transform a costume necklace into the real thing and turn “old stuff” from Grandma into hautes bijoux. Don’t expect a fancy showroom; this is a working jeweler’s studio. The prices, happily, reflect that.

Faberge?! Want me to check him out?

Yes ma''am!

Interesting.

Totally, go for it, Harriett! I would love to have someone with a trained eye give an opinion on his work.

Let us know!!!

Harriet - did you ever get down to check out Maxim??

Sorry, I forgot. I''ll try to do so tomorrow.
