Hi, there. I have an old european cut diamond I/J color I1 clarity, but it shines very well. Diameter is 6.29m. I have been looking for a matching stone. I have the following choices:

1. Find matching old european cut same quality I/J color I1 clarity for $800 to $900
2. Buy a GIA cert stone I/SI1 HCA cut rated 2.2 for $2600-$3k+

I know that the Old European cut is different than modern cut, and I am ok with that, so long both diamond shines and inclusion is not visible to naked eyes.

Do you think I should go for choice 1 since it is much less money; however, owning a quality stone feels nicer but not a must have.

Shall I go for choice 2 in event I ever want to trade up or find matching stone later on?

Thanks

Hi saphire,

I guess I have a question first. Are you wanting these stones for a pair of earrings, or for a ring?

If they were to go in, say, a 3 stone ring, I''d want them to match well. If they were to be earrings, you might get away with buying the certed stone, if it wasn''t obviously different (in performance) from the OEC. However, if they were for earrings, you might just consider getting 2 new matching stones, and save the OEC for something else.
