I bought a spess from Dana this week. It has inclusions, but has a beautiful color and glow and was inexpensive.

It DOES seem to glow. As long as the inclusions aren't distracting IRL, it's going to be awesome once set. I know the camera picks up on inclusions better than the eye.

Also, my assistant says hello.

I didn't really notice the inclusions till I took the photos. Then I saw the black spots (which I could not see with my naked eye). I love the color and glow, plus I want to make it a pendant so its not like people will be looking at it real close.

If I am not mistaken, it is a Lloliondo. I have it's little brother (sister) and yes, it has eye-visible inclusions but the cut is decent, the price is more than affordable and it glows. Mine is yellow-orange and has absolutely no brown in it. While not a museum specimen, it should look well in a pendant or a ring. I was looking for a sapphire of the same size but now I think that it could look very well with an opaque stone - my current idea is lapis, I am looking for someone who can cut a piece of decent lapis. It could match a black opal or any black stone, too. In fact, there are many ideas of setting it, and I, honestly, think that it will be rather difficult to find another transparent stone that would not "clash" with its color and brightness. I am now trying to persuade the jeweler I found on Etsy to work with it; she is overbooked.

Congratulations!

Laura

Yummy orange, just in time for Halloween!

Happy Halloween, herekittykitty! I love the orange, it just glows!

Your little helper is adorable, too! ;))

Thanks Chrono, Largosmom, tourmaline_lover, and Aoife!

Crasru, I think a black opal would look incredible with it.

Jill from Janish Jewelers on etsy had a hard time bezel setting this guy. She remade the bezel twice, but had trouble due to a small chip in the corner and a thin girdle. She then offered to refund me all my money since it wasn't up to her normal standards and send the gem back. I told her to send the ring since she already got it in, even if it was not as beautiful as we would have liked. I think it says a lot about her integrity that she offered to refund my money completely, since it was not up her standards, but I think I like it just fine.

I think the ring looks great!

i agree that it turned out just fine. the color glows and the bezel protects it. the thin bezel with that shape stone must have been very difficult to work with in the first place. its simple yet elegant.

I think it looks great. I'm a huge bezel fan, and Jill's work is lovely, even with that troublesome stone.

Enjoy your pretty new ring! :appl:

Very pretty. :appl:

For what she had to work with, I think Jill still managed to pull off something beautiful and nobody else but you can see the faults. Sounds like an upstanding Etsy vendor to me with such honesty and integrity!

i'm loving the loliondos, they look like lil rays of sunshine! or candy. either way it's delicious.

chrono, it hasn't arrived yet, so I'm not sure I see faults just yet. I felt compelled to mention what she said about refunding my money because she didn't think it was up to HER standards, and I want people considering working with her to realize that she doesn't consider this ring representative of her capabilities.

I highly recommend Jill Anish. She received my stone on Saturday and had the completed ring in the mail 48 hours later.

Can't wait to wear my new ring!

My apologies – I thought the hand shot was your hand/finger. I hope it meets your standards and that you’ll love it as you originally envisioned.

I'll be back with my own hand shots in a few days!

Good that she made it! Apparently it was a difficult job. Good that you posted it because I was planning to buy a matching stone (a tsavorite or a sapphire) for my trillion-cut Lloliondo but now I perhaps need to consult with Jill before I make any plans. And, should I decide to bezel it, ask if she would do it since she already has the experience.

Best of all, Jill apparently can work with "difficult" stones and this is good to know! I have noticed that she bezels irregular-shaped stones, and it is quite a job!

And by the way - it does not surprise me that she offered a refund. She is a real professional, and very honest.
And aren't you surprized with her promptness? If she is busy, she tells you she can not do it this week but she is always very, very good with time.

So I am happy with the ring and think it looks lovely.

Very, very pretty! I see the issue with the bezel, but I think Jill did a great job, considering the irregularities you say the stone had.

Is it wrong that looking at it makes me think of pumpkin pie? :lickout:

No, it makes me think of pumpkin pie too. I can never get enough orange. :-)
