I've never used my gun to intimidate. The one time I took it out to use on a human it was going to be used and thats not a joke. Thats not because I had planned to break the law either but I was in a position of life or death and I wasn't gonna die.

You bet - my point exactly. And my access to opening the security box is simply done with finger print recognition. And if someone comes into my home, through my security system then I am sorry for them. If it's myself or my family members or them, it will be them. My husband is afraid of guns however, I am not. And I would NEVER use a gun for intimidation.

Protection doesn't mean only against other humans. There are animal threats. I supposed I could get a rifle, but I have no idea about how to do so, so it's not worth it. If I lived a little out in the country, we would have one most likely.

@Queenie60 you and @Arcadian are responsible and smart gun owners. If everyone was like you we would be OK.

Some statistics.

I didn't say anything about a joke, but yes it absolutely is intimidation. You felt threatened, so threatened them back with a gun. That's intimidation. I'm sorry you were ever in that situation, it sounds really scary. But let's not skirt around that having an item solely designed to kill someone isn't intimidating.

Guess she was protecting her "right" for McDonalds?

Black man shot while jogging - who were these white supremacists protecting? Hmm...

Yup. There really are 2 pandemics.

Just for 2020 alone.

@missy Just heartbreaking :(

Assuming that we all approach vague questions and polls the way that you do is even more obtuse. There are different types of guns—and this question does not address that. An AK47 cannot be compared to a .22.
And let’s not talk about masks. Bc when a certain culture wears a mask, racists automatically treat them differently. Oh and let’s not talk about white privilege when it comes to protesting with guns. Sorry not sorry that I don’t share your Pollyanna perspective on a poll that intends to create more divisiveness in an already divided time. It is obtuse of you not to realize how the gun control threads always end.

No Nala, I do not assume everyone approaches vague questions and polls in the way that I do. I DO however assume that people approach things in CONTEXT. For example: When a man comes to this board and asks for advice in upgrading his wife's ring for a significant anniversary the conversation DOESN'T go like this: "Welcome to the board bud! About this ring -- are you talking about her engagement or wedding ring? Or did you want to get the little woman a new nose ring? Toe ring? Nipple ring?" No. There are assumptions made based on CONTEXT. The current CONTEXT centers on, say it with me now, Pan. Dem. Ic.

It's not October. People are wearing face masks due to the Pan. Dem. Ic.

You will get no argument from me that both a 22 and an AK47 are different types of guns. They are both however REAL guns. People are protesting with displays of REAL guns. Protesting, in case this needs to be stated clearly, issues related to the Pan. Dem. Ic.

Not sure where the racism and white privilege items are coming from. Or where they're going... ? But please spare yourself the need to "explain" it.

Yours in love and bling,

Obtuse Pollyana

The one thing I never ever joke about are guns. we weren't raised to think of them as toys but as tools. we weren't allowed to have them as toys either.

Personally they should never be SEEN as toys ever.

Once a line is crossed its less about threat and intimidation and more about survival and that line was crossed with me. My intent was not to threaten, it was to remove the threat.

I will say this and exit the thread because I saw your comment and it not only bothered me but I got damn angry and yes, I was even triggered and that flashback is not pleasant.

Please do not ever, ever, put someone down for defending their life because you have never had to walk in their shoes.

I adore you but that totally crossed a line.

Hugs Arcadian...
These gun threads always end up the same way...

@Arcadian i am deeply sorry for triggering you, that of course is not my intent. Sending big hugs for you ❤️

I won’t argue about this any longer though. A gun is a killing item, and we have very different views on this that are unlikely to be reconciled this way.
