I just came back from getting my manicure and pedicure done.

$60

$60!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Granted, it''s a little bit of an upscale salon, and I can get the same at other places for about $40.

But still - I think that''s outrageous. I''m still grieving NY prices, where you could get a manicure and pedicure for $20 Monday - Wednesday.

Whoever said FL is cheaper than NY?

I was going to say in Miami its about $40 if you go to the mall for mani/ped. I usually get a french manicure and its $25 before tip.

In Kissimmee, where my mom lives, I can get a french manicure for $8

I pay either $40 or $60 depending on which place I go to. I hate to say it though, the $60 place lasts a lot longer. A mani from the $60 places lasts a week (well, OK, 6 days, but by the 7th day who cares because you're getting it redone anyway) but at any other place I've ever gone to I'm redoing the polish myself after 3-5 days. Pedis, I'm not so picky about. The pedi from the $40 place seems to last just fine.

ETA: This is in downtown Chicago, just FYI.

OK - keep it coming...maybe I''ll end up not feeling so bad after all! (except for the $8 french fiery can get!)

What do you think makes the manicures from the $60 place last longer, though? They''re using the same polishes!

I don''t know - all I know is that in NY for the $20 I got a decent manicure and pedicure - and like everything else, of course some places were better than others.

I don''t know why the manis from the one place last longer than the other... I have thought about this, and they ARE using the same stuff (Essi polish, seche vite [sp?] top coat, etc.,) but for some reason they just last and last and last!

My Red Door Spa charges $26 for a mani and $52 for a pedi, so $78 total before tips.
Those pedicures are totally worth it, though!

(I''m in the northern suburbs of Chicago)

Dee*Jay you are right on about some places...I suspect that when they seem to be using the same product that maybe they are thinning down the polish? Post engagement I got my mani/peddi like a good newly minted BIW...$20 in Brooklyn. It lasted a full 7 days, and really it was just one finger that chipped when I took it off.

BUT When I redid my nails myself, it took all of 2 days for it to look major tacky with chips all over the place.

$30 at the cheapie salon

$55 at the more upscale place

Where are you, Kittybean?

Haven, $78 before tips!

I thought $60 was bad!

Do you get them done often, or are they a special treat? When in NY I used to go religiously - but it''s hard to spend $60 ($72 with the tip) a month, and that''s only with ONE manicure per month. If I was to get a manicure every 7 days, that would be $120 per month. It just sounds like so much for a luxury - although it is part of the maintenance and I do think it''s important to look and feel well groomed...

Of course that''s not including the $20 + $4 tip for the eyebrow threading!

It''s expensive to be a girl!

Oh goodness, no! I only get nail treatments done for very special occasions. I''m way too cheap to go regularly. I''ve long been addicted to painting my own nails, anyway--I''ve had a drawer full of nail polish for as long as I can remember.

My mom goes to the Red Door for manis every two weeks and pedis every four weeks, but she totally deserves it.

I actually cut out all waxing a few months ago to save money, that was costing me nearly $100 a month. Now I''m a polishing and tweezing queen!

Haven, I see...

I don''t mind paying $60 plus tip for a special occasion, but I don''t do my nails myself, so if I want them done, that''s what I would have to pay for ongoing maintenance. Very expensive to do...

In NY I could do it...here...it''s harder to justify.

Depending where I go - 25 to 40 for mani
25 to 60 for a pedi

But I don''t go often as I think I can do just as well.
My big gripe is rough nail edges, but what really bugs
me is polish applied to a nail that has lotion on it.
Within a few days, the polish chips of course, duh!!

And don''t get me started on dirty tools!

I live in Texas and I pay about $12-18 for a manicure and $22-35 for a pedicure depending on which place I go to and which type of pedicure I get. The $35 pedicure is AMAZING and they rub this blue mud all over... its heaven! I''ve been getting a pedicure once a month and mani every 2 or 3 months... but I think I''ll be cutting back and trying to do them myself more often.

Here in New Mexico it depends on where you go, but I can get a pedi for around $25. I usually don''t get manis, but they are even less. I will admit though, the one time I had them done at a "real" salon, they lasted me almost two weeks!

bebe, I have a lot of gripes hhaha

I hate rough edges
I hate when nail polish doesn't cover the whole nail
I hate when nail polish is applied on too thick
I hate when they rush through the neatening/cleaning up the nail process, especially on the feet

I like the massages - but I would rather them skip them and the rubs, etc., and have them spend more time on the actual cuticle and nail cleaning, shaping, and trimming

And cleanliness is a must...first thing I look for

I would love to be able to get a manicure once a week, a pedicure once a month, but at those prices it's hard.

So do most of you do your own nails?

ETA: Hey! Tomorrow's my 2-year PS anniversary!

Well, depending on where I go, I pay anywhere from $30 for both to $150 for both. The $30 job only lasts a day or two on my hands and about 5/6 days on my feet. I go there in a pinch when I have plans that night or next day. I do a couple styles of martial arts, so I always get a pedi before I''m barefoot in front of judges at tournaments. When it isn''t tournament season (season runs Feb-Nov) I do them myself. I very rarely get my hands done as I wash my hands upwards of 30 times daily at work. Plus, manis don''t last very long in sparring gloves!

When my sis lived in NYC we always joked that the only cheap things there were: coffee, the Times and nails. Seriously, I have never seen better nail prices than in NYC. I think it has to do with massive competition from so many nail boutiques plus the ability to have an almost steady steam of clientele. Nail techs in NYC are rarely idle.

Funny that you ask this as I was just thinking about how I am SICK of my nail salon. I have acrylics, but they convinced me to get gels this time. A fill is $25 when it would normally be $15 and because I make them put gel on top of the polish (because it lasts longer), it''s $3 extra without tip. AND as I am sitting here staring at my nails, they look like a$$ and I just got them done Saturday. I am contemplating going to a more upscale place because right now I just go to a little place in a strip mall (I''m in the Chicago Burbs), but I have been going there FOREVER! Oh and in the summer when I get pedi''s every 2 weeks, its $25 for a pedi, if I get mani/pedi (real nails not acrylic), it''s $35 before tip. With a fill and pedi it''s about $40ish though now would be more.

Though, I figure I can splurge because my sister is an esthetician and she waxes me FOR FREE!!!! (All I have to do is buy my wax)

A hundred and fifty AMERICAN dollars?!?

Yeah. There is an UNBELIEVABLE spa near me. My DH has given me gift certificates for it before. I got another one from my mum at Christmas and I gave her one. I wouldn''t pay that out of pocket, but if it''s included in a "day package" why not? The 150 is actually the total with one of their cheaper pedis. I have their price list on front of me. Ready for this? Cheapest full mani is $65. Cheapest pedi is $70. They are unbelievable and last forever - but I simply couldn''t rationalize paying out of pocket.

I give myself a full mani/pedi once a week at home. I use good polish (OPI) and professional quality tools. BECAUSE, my salon charges $30 for a mani ($35 for french) and $40 for a pedi ($45 for french). If you want a "spa mani" it's gonna run you $50 and a "spa pedi" is $60! Granted, the spa mani/pedi is awesome, but the last time I had them do my nails was on DH's and my wedding day . . . three and a half years ago! I'll just do them myself and save $70 to $110, thank ya very much!!!

For reference, I'm in the Hagerstown, MD area and I go to one of the better salons in the area. But still!

I''ve paid about $30 dollars and $5 per person for a tip, for a total of $40... Semi-cheap place, but I got a spa pedicure and message and it felt SO good.

I used to live in Long Beach, CA.

Midwest - usually $10-15 for mani, $20-30 for pedi - NOT at a spa. Spa prices are about $25 for mani, $40 for pedi if I remember correctly. I think at my salon right now I pay $35 for both. What's crazy to me is how little the prices change between places in the area. I had the absolute grossest mani/pedi with my mom over Xmas (the second we were out the door we realized that the other nearly stopped the process! The people weren't using any cleaner or anything for their brushes - that's a sign) - but it was still $35, which is what it would have been on the other side of town at the place we normally go that does an excellent job (and the hot towel wrap on your legs, which I love).

I am in the Philadelphia area and can get a mani for $10 and a pedi for $20 ($25 for french pedi, which is what I always get). This is pre-tip and not a fancy upscale salon. The pedi lasts for at least a month to month and a half, while I can probably stretch the mani to a few weeks.

For both it''s about €60 over here. Expensive!

I think a manicure where I go is 35 and the pedicure is around 65. It''s an upscale place.

Wow, I feel lucky! I am in Atlanta, and go to a place in the Virginia Highlands where a mani/spa pedi is $26!! And it lasts a week, when I am not awful to my nails at work. I love my salon, you have to make an appointment...but the best part is that it doesn''t smell like a nail salon. You hardly can tell at all by walking in. I was so pleased to have found it!

I pay about $30 for mani/pedi without tip, at my regular place in a nice neighborhood in San Francisco - the manis and pedis tend to last pretty well, though I wouldn''t say quite a week for manis. The place I go isn''t fancy, but they do a nice job, and it includes a hot lotion hand and foot massage and hot towels, so I''m happy

Where are you, Kittybean?
That was in Boulder, Colorado. I haven''t gotten a mani/pedi since I moved this summer!

I think where I live in LA may be the cheapest. There is one REALLY cheapy place that will do mani AND pedi together for $13.99. The newer, more premium place is $20 for mani+spa pedi. Of course, it''s LA, so there''s guaranteed to be places that will run you $100+ (I don''t go to those =) I love that there are 3-4 places I can walk to from my house...
