A "localish" man posted his truck on kijiji and autotrader and had a guy call him and 2 men came to take it for a test drive. He never returned. Please keep an eye out if your in the Hamilton area and keep this family in your thoughts and prayers. This is so messed up and makes me SO angry. Just steal the dang truck-don't take the guy with you or hurt him! :nono:

This makes me so sad...

It makes me damn ANGRY.

Reminds me of the Schuyler Deleon case--he took two boat owners out to sea and threw them overboard because they wanted their yacht. I'm happy to report he is now on California's Death Row where he tried unsuccessfully to remove his penis with a razor in a failed attempt to perform a sexual reassignment surgery on himself. You can't make this stuff up.

I just don't understand how some people get their monumental sense of entitlement at the expense of others.....

That stuff has happened, sadly, several times here. I hope he's found, ALIVE, and his captors are punished to the fullest extent possible.

What a darned shame. A good example of why I don't sell anything direct anymore. Traded in my last car when I could've made a much better price flogging it myself - but I didn't want to take the chance on weirdos. Ditto stuff like furniture whenever we move -- I'll send it to a consignment shop & take the monetary bath rather than having the public wandering around my house.

It's not a nice world out there anymore. ;( Hope very much this guy turns up ok.

My friend sold her car through craigslist once... she carried a machete. She's creative like that.

I feel sick over this story. I keep hoping for a positive outcome, but it's not looking good. These kind of things don't usually happen around here. I live near the area too. :blackeye:

I swear as the years go by people are becoming more nuts than ever.

Lyra: I got a bad bad bad feeling when I first saw this posted. I don't want to say much but there have been a couple of times where I've seen things like this and prayed and I knew the outcome was going to be different. Once was an amber alert (can't remember who now) and the boy was returned safe (I think it actually was the case where the boy was taken from his home and then later returned-which everyone knows is totally unusual and strange) but I just knew somehow he was going to be found alive.

The next was athenaworth's post on her friends missing daughter. Somehow I just knew she was going to be found as well.

But when I prayed about this...the outcome wasn't what I was hoping for. I'm hoping I'm really really really wrong. But the moment I was done I thought he's not coming home and it broke my heart.

It's been quite a few days now too-if they just wanted the truck and were going to release him unharmed I'm sure he would have been found by now.

I keep checking for updates but I haven't seen any new ones. Please let me know if you hear anything since your closer.

;(

This hits close to home for me as well. I know some people who know this family.
I was talking to a friend about this on the way into work today.
I also have a really bad feeling about this... I wish I didn't but I do.
I cant imagine what his wife is going through right now.
My husband sells his vintage cars on Kijiji - after this I will make him take photos of drivers licenses before he takes people out.
Sad sad sad!

sad but true --- we are all going to have to become a lot more vigilant with who we interact with, if they are new people to us. Its sad to think this type of thing happens ... such heart wrenching anquish for the family and friends of both sides - the victim AND the perpetrators!!

I hope this man is found alive...

Re: Man took "buyers" for a test drive and never returned

Such a horrible story. And hits close to home because DH is constantly selling cars and buying new ones.

It boggles my mind why people feel the need to do this? Why couldn't they have just stole the car? Man.... I really really hope he's safe and unharmed.

Perhaps it wasn't about the truck. Perhaps they just wanted a victim-I'd hate it if that were really true but it's a very easy way to get someone alone and one on one and on the move at that. That was the feeling I got at least anyways ;(

I mean there are easier ways to steal a truck (especially if your going to take it to a chop shop) than leaving a phone record (unless it's a disposable cell phone) AND an eye witness to ID you later on. I mean go to a parking garage and steal one there-much less risky IMO or even one on the street.

That's another reason I have such a sad/bad/icky feeling about this. :knockout:

This is so awful....I hope he is OK..my hubby and bought and sold on craigslist and he ALWAYS carries a gun with him when he makes transactions....so far they have all turned out OK....

I just watched a news conference.
They have found his cell phone - in some industrial part of Brantford.
Someone knows these two men... someone will come forward... its only a matter of time.

This is so true!!
Why on earth would you plan on stealing a car... and show up at someones house where people can see you etc.
These guys are obviously pretty stupid.
I have a nasty feeling about the outcome.. but I hope they find these men and lock them up!

Smart dishonest people wouldn't be bothering with trucks anyhow. They'd be trading commodities at Enron 2.0. Hell, even the Enron people weren't as smart as they pretended to be. Most really smart people understand the virtues of not making everyone else hate your guts, not to mention realizing that while the cops may be a bit slow, they ain't that slow.

Oh reading that article is so sad. His wife is pleading to have the captors (that's what I'm going to call them...) release her husband and their daughters father. If that doesn't just make you choke up and your heart ache ...

These guys are evil. I hope when they are found, more evil befalls them than anything they could have imagined for their victims.

No death penalty in Canada. Pity...

They have updated with some new info.

They found his cell phone near brandtford and they traced the number they used to another cell phone-they did the same thing to another individual but they think since the other seller was so much bigger they didn't risk it.

I knew this wasn't about the truck ;(

Oh, this is so awful, and my heart goes out to his wife and family. It sure doesn't sound like it's going to end well.

This is not too from where we are and since my DH is privately listing a vehicle soon, he definitely won't be taking anyone on a test drive by himself.

Now that we have more details, I see a giant red flag there. Two guys *walked* to the test drive? No, no, no. You'd at least expect some mutual goodwill, with having their car sitting at your house while you went on a test drive. That would have made some sense. There is no way anyone should agree to a walk-in request like that! :nono:

I wish there had been more publicity about the first man's somewhat similar experience, but I guess that's just hindsight now. I don't think we'll find the missing man alive. It's been too long, and that's usually a very bad sign. I feel so sad for his wife and family. I hope they get closure one way or the other, very soon.

Horrifying and inexplicable. My heart goes out to his loved ones.

That is so sad and horrible. I hope they find whoever did it and bring them to justice.

:(sad

how your life can change in one second...

Wow this is just so sad. What a nightmare.

I know people who are involved with the Waterloo airport and we almost bought a small property in Ayr near the one mentioned. Name is definitely familiar. Way way way too close to home.

I want to do something for the family but can't figure out what. Any ideas?

I haven't seen anything yet, but is there a bank that is setting up a trust fund for the daughter yet? You could start one from Pricescope!

OR did you mean actually connect directly w the family and offer them something?

I can't imagine the horror of all the images they must be creating in their heads, as to his last moments. I can't get that thought out of my head... if it were my loved one .... I'd be inconsolable.

It's so heartbreaking, his family must be beyond devastated. I feel sick in the pit of my stomach for what he must have gone through. It sounds like there is a lot of info out there that is being made available to the police via hotline tips, which should mean the other suspects will be behind bars before long.
