What makeup do you keep in your purse? Do you keep full size containers of makeup there, or have you found a kit that contains quality components?

I have a 3.5-month old baby and will be returning to work soon, and I can already foresee myself running late in the mornings and throwing on some makeup in the car in the parking lot before going into my building. I would like to keep something in my purse so I have the essentials on hand, but would prefer they not take up so much space. So, I thought I would ask the always helpful PSers what they do. I would ideally love a kit that contains eye shadow and blush -- a bonus would be if if also had eyeliner and mascara, but I know that the kits aren't always the best quality.

I'm no help here. I wear makeup every day, but I carry just a small wristlet as my purse, so all I carry in terms of cosmetics is a lip gloss. Rather than a kit, what if you found a small makeup bag that you could throw a few essentials into? I don't know about you, but I use so many different brands that there's no way I'd be able to find a kit that would work for me.

I love to take just about everything with me!! :D

I suggest the following. I love Bobbi Brown palettes. They include eye shadow/blusher/lipstick/gloss. The eye shadow can double as liner so saves on space. Also BB does great mini brush sets to go along with it. As for concealer, foundation etc, I decant into little pots. You can either re use ones from counter that provide MU samples or purchase them from most drug stores. Mac do these also. Loose powder can be transported in the same manner.

If BB is either not to your taste or to much $$$ try sephora or the like. I am sure they could recommend a good all round palette for less $$$.

Let us know what you decide. I l  ve MU and would love to see what you get!! :wavey:

I saw the contents of Susimoo's purse once - she has awesome stuff in there.

I take a lip balm and a creme de la mer dusting brush, pre-loaded with loose powder. I also like to have some handcream with me, especially in winter.

I hardly ever go out of the house without makeup on, but I just carry around a few lipsticks/lipglasses in my purse. And chapstick.

I find that with an eyeshadow base and higher quality foundation/eyeshadow, my makeup generally stays put throughout the work day. If I'm going back out in the evening (which doesn't happen all that often) I will touch up at home, and it's good for the rest of the night.

I only keep lip gloss and a compact of powder + foundation in one (which I rarely end up using, but I like having it there and it won't make a mess because it's a solid compact)

HI:

I have no less than 10 tubes of lipstick and gloss. Oh and my Chanel lip balm and those oil blotter paper thingies. Nothing else tho.

cheers--Sharon

I have small little containers of Bare Escentuals-foundation, blush and mineral veil. 2 small brushes, touche eclat, eyebrow
pencil, nail clippers, a glass nail file, a couple lip glosses and a lipstick. It all fits in one small zippered bag. I like the Loreal
mascara that puts little tubes on your lashes ( I forget what it is called). It pretty much stays on all day with no smudging so I
rarely bring mascara or eyeliner.

I keep everything in my purse in a small cosmetic bag. Foundation, mascara, eyelash curler and 2 colors of lip gloss/stick and I'm good to go.

I actually never carry any make-up with me on a regular basis, except chapstick and lip gloss (and I rarely use the latter). I end up switching bags all the time (between my purse and my laptop bag/purse) so it's too much of a hassle.

Same here. I carry a mirror, a lipstick, two or three glosses, my Cherry Chapstick (can't live without it winter or summer), and sometimes under eye concealer if I'm going to be out all day because it tends to settle and look funny. My makeup stays put all day.
If I'm going out at night, I definitely bring my concealer and blush.

Thanks, everyone. I used to only carry around a lipstick as well, but I think mommy-hood is going to require I carry around a bit more makeup with me (mornings are going to be hectic! and I've gotta combat those under-eye dark circles ;( ). Maybe I'll try to go over to Sephora this week and see what they suggest. I've never really been a huge makeup person any way, so it would be a nice bit pampering to have my makeup done and get some tips.

I used to carry my liquid foundation, eyeliner, mascara, eyeshadow, lip balm, and lip gloss around with me. I recently switched to using Bare Minerals though, and now I just carry my lip balm and lip gloss. I don't really have time to reapply my makeup throughout the day anyway, so I just picked up one of those sprays that is supposed to help your makeup last longer. The one I chose is by Urban Decay. but I've also heard of one called Model in a Bottle. I'm not sure if they really work or not, but I figure that it's worth a try. :)

I have a small foundation touch up tube in my purse, powder with a mirror, lip gloss, and my favorite eye shadow pallet. I keep them in the inside zip pocket and they are all small containers.

I carry everything with me in a little bag that goes inside my handbag. I carry 2 eye liners, 2 eye shadows, 2 mascaras, a chapstick, 1 lipstick, and a lip pencil. I sometimes rotate things and take out what I don't need or haven't used in a while. Right now I seem to have a lot in there!

I forgot to add that although I carry all this with me, I have used it maybe one time in the last year. I really could just
get rid of the whole thing and make my purse lighter!

Having a young child usually means lack of sleep. So you'll want makeup that makes you look fresh and awake.
In my case, I just like to stay up late and sleep in - leaving only a few minutes to get ready.

When I'm on the go and in the car - the last thing I want to do is use makeup that require more than one hand.
I recommend carrying a small makeup zip bag that will fit your essentials such as:

- lip gloss/lip stick
- lip balm (always a must for those dry lips!)
- small tube of handcream
- concealer
- power compact with mirror
- eye lash curler (if you need to curl your lashes) & small tube of mascara. Better yet - get your eyelashes tinted if you can.
- eyeshadow
- small eyeliner

Eyeshadow:
I recommend cream based light coloured eyeshadow. The shade will depend on your skin tone. Stick to light colous - white makes your eyes look bright and wide. However some people can't wear white. So you'll need to try some colours to see which ones makes your eyes pop. I like cream based because it's easy to apply in the car with your finger. No brushes required. You can have wipes handy in your car to clean your hands/mess.

I keep a tube of aquaphor and a mirror that's seen better days. That's it. I put on make up every day and basically just hope it stays on!

For dab and dash makeup, this is my suggestion...

-Tinted moisturizer...can be applied just like regular moisturizer
-Pot concealer...can be applied using your fingers (MAC offers a good option for this one)
-Tinted lip balm (anything from Burt Bees all the way up)
-Mascara (lash enhancing is nice because it will give you a more dramatic, polished look)
-Nude shadow...something simple will mean you can be less perfect (a extendable brush is great to have too, compact for storage)

Right now I just carry lip gloss, but am about to add eye liner to the repertoire. I can never seem to last the day without it smudging/wearing.
