Wrinkle removers, energy drinks, vitamin concoctions and even face creams are all money making schemes.
They prey on the insecure.

Maybe? Now that I’m in my mid 30’s I take a Costco multi vitamin and use moisturizer. I think it helps me look and feel a little bit better.

Not 10 years younger though and I don’t think it costs me more than $15 per month so why not.

Nah, no fountain of youth for me. The funny thing is the more foundation I wear now at 54, the older I look. Just sticking with tinted moisturizer, minimal make-up and try to stay out of direct sunlight :)

Coloring my grey makes me look younger... that’s the only thing I can think of that does it for me.

I tried one of those eye serum thingy that is supposed to smooth out the lines around the eyes years ago, and hated it.
It was akin to applying glue and made the skin taut when dried. Horrible feeling, never again.
My mum was talked into buying some by one of her friends and came to the same conclusion.

The only thing that works wonders is sunscreen.

The dermatologist who is my hand specialist (not David) swears by Retin-A. He says it's a must for every adult. I was never tempted but it could be because of my super sensitive skin. He told me he uses Retin A and he's only in his early thirties. But from what I understand the earlier you start it the better. Not for me but I totally understand why others would use it.

I agree with you Callie. Sunscreen is a must for preserving one's youthful appearance for as long as possible. Drinking alcohol, smoking and sun damage causes premature aging of the skin.

The only thing I purchase that I feel makes me look brighter and livelier is a NARS blush in a shade called “Orgasm.” Gives you that flushed, I’ve just had a really great time look. ;)2 Who doesn’t look 10 years younger after a hearty, um, workout, right?

Monnie--I use the same color! I love the way it makes me look!:saint:

As to the original question, I am faithful to my Vit C serum and L'Occitane Ultra Rich (Shea butter) crème. For sure it makes such a difference...my skin has never been/looked better. And I drink and like sun exposure.

cheers--Sharon

As a fair skinned freckled gal living in Australia, said freckles were the bane of my life in my teenage years. I wore zinc cream and hats. In my twenties I continued on with SPF products to keep those pesky freckles at bay.
Fast forward to near my 60s and I can emphatically say that the sun (tanning) causes skin damage and accelerates aging. My face is much less lined and saggy than my peers.
Looking after your skin from a young age helps it last better and longer. Some creams and certainly surgery /laser treatment can reduce/ correct the effects of aging but the inevitable fact is as you get older things wear out.
So look after your skin, cleanse, moisturize and wear SPF, eat well, drink lots of water (and minimal alcohol) certainly don’t smoke and you will look as good as you can.

I have used RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle night cream for years with some shea butter cream for the dry spots, and I stay out of the sun as much as possible. I am mid-sixties and have some fine lines, but no deep wrinkles - people usually guess I am fifty-ish. RoC is an OTC form of Retin-A, and is gentler on the skin than the prescription strength.

Monnie and @canuk-gal , I think NARS Orgasm has been the best selling blush for many years.

@missy, I tried Retin A years ago and it my made my skin really red and flaky. When it didn’t improve after a month I quit using it.

@snowballs mom , I’ve used sunscreen on my face for the past 30 years. I skipped my neck for 20 years. BIG mistake. Thank you for the RoC recommendation. I think I’ll give it a try.

I use Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair. I love the way it makes my skin feel. This is me now- I’m 46 but I feel I look at least 10 years younger if not more-

I suggest using a moisturizer on top of it the first few of months - I needed it, since my skin was on the dry side at first. I have been using it so long I now just use cream under my eyes and on the side of my mouth. I buy RoC at Costco, since it is a lot less there than at the grocery store (just like their diamond earrings ).

I use a few products that have really improved my skin, idk about 10 years though, lol. Retinol, vit c/ferulic, hyaluronic acid, and sunscreen. I also use a AHA peel weekly. All of it helps.

But the true bomb is botox, lol.

I don't use anything special on my skin, only moisturizer in winter and bar soap when I wash it. Yup that probably horrifies some folks but It works for me, maybe at 50 it will be different

It is true when I shave I look a lot younger and people call my wifey4vr my mom and she is not happy about that at all.
Which is weird is she dont look older than our age but she dont dye her hair so its weird but the truth.
I'm the ugly one the cute one is my great grandniece.
Without the beard I dont look pushing 50 i guess.

Set to the music, When I was a young man, from Fiddler on the Roof.

When I was a young man, we had a wonderful neighbor in the apartment two around the square from us. Resa and I were in our twenties, she was in her late 70's at the time.

I wanted to get her a ring to wear, she said, No," her hands were too ugly for bringing attention to them.

The next time I was in the Jewelry Center in downtown LA I got her a lovely bypass ring into which. set two pear shaped opals. Resa and I gave it to her one night as Thanksgiving drew near.

She said, "No, Wink, I cannot wear this, it draws attention to my ugly fingers."

"Gretchen, when your eyes focus on the beautiful opals and the gold, can you even see your fingers?"

She quickly realized that instead of bringing attention to her fingers, they literally camouflaged them.

Shortly after Resa and I graduated from GIA, moved to Boise, and about a year and a half later Gretchen came to stay with us for a week long visit. She was proudly wearing her opal ring.

It would be the last time we would ever see her.

It may not make you look ten years younger to be kind, but it sure will make you feel incredible!

Never fallen for fountain of youth products because I was genetically blessed from both parents (both Asian). My dad who is 79 this year has hardly a wrinkle on his face, and no age spots. My 70 year old mom has so little gray hair, she doesn’t need to dye her hair....I believe I inherited both these traits.

I have to say though, my “fountain of youth” philosophy is using whitening toothpaste for squeaky white teeth and staying limber and fit through regular exercise. Both of which cost little to nothing!

My dermatologist said that at first it should be applied twice a week then every other day and you work your way up to daily. And that is was important to add moisturizer with it to dilute it at first. I guess lots of people have a sensitivity reaction to it.

Glad it works out well for you. And yes definitely when on any of these products staying out of the sun is important because it exacerbates any side effects. And of course protecting oneself from the sun is probably the best thing one can do for one's skin.

I think a lot of aging has to do with genetics if one is keeping all other variables constant ie protecting from the sun, minimizing alcohol consumption and not smoking, getting enough sleep and exercising, eating right and taking care of oneself. A lot of it is out of our control. But as @canuk-gal wisely wrote if it makes us feel better then go for it. Lifting one's mood is a big anti aging move IMO too. :appl:

And I am grateful for the opportunity to grow old and wrinkly with my dh.
Bring it on because the alternative isn't appealing.

@Gussie, can you recommend any brands for the products retinol/vit C ferulic and peel that you are using? I have a similar regime, but the stuff I am using no longer has much effect on my skin.

I have been considering botox, but I am not good with needles. I wish there was a way to lessen the pain somehow!
