So...pulled out the UV light tonight because the kids were playing with fluorescent markers. While they were ooohing and ahhing over what they'd written on their hands, I ran to get my Mahenge spinel. I still can't quite capture the brilliance of the glow - it's just stunning in person! Even DH was impressed, lol. Anyway, thought I'd share.

Cellantini, I wish I had been able to see this beauty set in person! It was just amazing as a loose stone; set, it's spectacular!!!!!

Cool pics. Do you have anymore photos of the ring without uv?

Thanks Lauren, and you know, I have a feeling you will see this in person some day! ;)) :cheeky:

Hi innerkitten - I do have some regular photos; just give me a sec.

Here's the same ring in natural light.

OMG! When did I miss seeing the set Mahenge? I don't recall seeing this setting.
When was it made?
Who made it?

That's one gorgeous ring!

I wish one could wear fluorescent lamp on his/her forehead day and night, this stone looks fantastic in the UV light! :D
The color is great, and the cut fa-an-tastic!

It's a gorgeous ring! And I'm jealous that your fluorescent photos turned out so well; mine always come out purple.

Awww, thanks everyone for your wonderful comments - it's really nice to hear from all of you. I'll just respond to everyones' questions, instead of answering individually - hope that's not bad manners (or at least no worse than my grammar).

The spinel is from Gary Braun, and I've had it since around November of last year. It's 2.3ct, and 8.3 x 6.2mm. With the exception of earring stones, most of my CS purchases are near or over the 3ct mark, so I worried about the size and shrinkage syndrome (I have that disease BAD), but you know, the stone looks bigger after being set. So while it doesn't cover my chubby little finger completely, the stone's presence will hopefully draw your eye inward and make my finger appear slimmer; at least in theory, right?

I lucked out on the setting - I just happened to come across it in the jewelers case, and it couldn't have been a more perfect fit. The delicate halo seems to enhance the size without distracting, and the color seems even better and more saturated after being set.
So no, it's not a Leon, but I melt over the prongs every time I look at it - the benchman did a fantastic job!

Here's a hand shot:
