Does anyone know anything about the "lucy cut."
I'm looking for a new diamond and the jewler showed me an EGL "lucy cut."
It seems to be part cushion part radiant? At least to me. I'll try to remember my camera next I go see him.

In person it was quite beautiful. Here are all the specs I have...

Carat Weight: 1.31
Color: E
Clarity: VS2
Shape: lucy cut
Depth: 64.4%
Table: 66%
Polish: VG
Symmetry: VG
Culet: NO
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 6.5x6.44x4.16

Interesting

a watch out - sometimes these new cuts dimensions are reported corner to corner - rather than edge to edge.

Gary

It’s a Lucida clone. I have one at the office;

Manufacturer is asking us to consider them.

If you like you can send for it to have a look.

Alternatively I could post an Idealscope or Aset image on Monday

I would like to see and scan it thx Johan - I should ask Linda to pick it up?

Yes Gary that’s fine let Linda come around. Could you also send one of your new Ideal Scope’s with her

Johan

As promised here is a Lucy cut.

As you indicated Johan, this is very similar to a few other round variants in square corners off.

It performs as well as a well cut princess, but with more of a roumd appearance.
The spread factor is not great at -21% compared to a Tolkowsky round.
There is no fisheye problem that /i have seen in some other variants.

Hello Bambina,

I know the Lucy Cut very well. As I've sold dozens of them and examined them for their best rations for light performance. The1.31ct Lucy cut you are looking at does not have proportions I would recommend. It will look closer to a radiant diamond and the light return is not as good with these proportions. I would know.....I had this stone in my office several months ago. The good thing is...the color and clarity were accurate which can sometimes be rare for EGL. I can tell you that under Gary's Ideal scope (thanks Gary for the great tool) this diamond will look very good but the proportions must be exact. By that I mean the crown and pavillion mostly. (assuming the symmetry is at least very good) This diamond is not as forgiving as a round diamond in terms of variations of proportions. 1 percent difference on the pavillion, for example, and the diamond has considerably less brilliance.

Regarding comparing it to a princess diamond. A very well cut princess will perform just as well as a Lucy Cut under the "ideal scope". However, out of 10 people that we have have compare the Lucy Cut to a Princess diamond. ALL have preferred the Lucy Cut. The reason being, that to the naked eye (not neccessarily intruments) it has considerable more sparkle. A young man came to my office last week. His budget was 15000.00 And he said he wanted a princess cut over the phone. When he came down to meet, I also showed him the Lucy Cut. It took him about 5 seconds to say that the princess cut was no longer an option

By the way, thanks to GOG and Gary. I've learned alot from you guys in the past years.

Cheers,

T.

One other thing I would like to mention is regarding Johan''s statement that the Lucy Cut is a clone of the Lucida diamond. Correct me if I''m wrong, but I believe the Lucida diamond has two "levels" of step facets on the crown, while the Lucy cut is mixed with brilliant facets and one "level" of step facets on the crown. Is this considered a clone......I thought clone''s were the same?

Cheers,

T.

Regarding comparing it to a princess diamond. A very well cut princess will perform just as well as a Lucy Cut under the 'ideal scope'. Apexboy i agree that the ideal-scope is only really useful for preselecting fancy shapes - the ASET is the best tool for actual final selection - and to really get the maximum benefit the stone should be held in tweezers and rocked. the ideal-scope can not be beateen for rounds however. Please have a good look at our ASET princess cut reference chart - and you will see why the Lucy scan from Johan does so well. http://ideal-scope.com/using_reference_chart_ASET.asp However, out of 10 people that we have have compare the Lucy Cut to a Princess diamond. I'd be happy to explain more if you wish. A link to your website is more appropriate
