We scanned this one recently and thought it quite comical. :) In spot lighting environements I''d say the reading is quite accurate.

Unfortunately no Val. Everytime we''ve ran across rose cuts they were always already set into an antique or period piece. Haha... black hole! Black diamond yes.

Can a RB diamond score the same thing if it was something like industrial grade spit? Just curious

The label reads black diamond...is it a real diamond or perhaps a CZ of some sort?

Interesting observation Ana, If reflection is one component of brilliance then a highly polished reflective surface should give some result.

Perhaps this black diamond is below the bottom limited. One wonders what a small mirror would record.

Good question Princess V. You know what ... I have a calibration stone that came with the Helium scanner that would qualify as industrial grade spit.

When I get back up to the lab on Tuesday I''ll run it and post the results. Should be interesting.

Actual diamond Mata. We are currently making a disc shaped pendant for a client and he is alternating small black diamonds with white diamonds in the piece. I saw my sis helping him with this recently. They aren''t very high in demand but they are cheap and available!

Johan
Hey Johan!

Good point. Actually the Bscope looks strictly at internal reflections and not external. At least this is what I assess from the images it is doing it''s analysis from.

So it scored a triple 000 on the Hideouscope did it Jon?

How bad actually was it? Did it even resemble a diamond?

Reflections will only be seen by the camera if the stones crown facets are cut at some angle that directs light fromthe light into the lens. I yhave asked many times and many people who have access to the device to calculate the angles - it is quite relevant to the debates about the failings of the GIA''s Diamond Dock - Rhino - want to take the cover off and measure the height above stone and light diameter for each of the lighting positions?

Perhaps this black diamond is below the bottom limited. One wonders what a small mirror would record. Johan you would see a perfect reflection of the camera lens. A more interesting experiment would be to place a small domed mirror in the stones position.

--------

If you want see reflection for crown angle 35 degree, light position should be 70 degree from zenith.
If you want see reflection for crown angle 40 degree, light position should be 80 degree from zenith.
I think all BS light positions have angles less than 70 degree.
