Hi all~ This is my first post so "HELLO!" I am newly engaged (since Halloween) and am VERY very excited. Fiance and I are planning and paying for this wedding and so far....let''s just say we''ve had great practice at learing how to agree to disagree!!! lol

Our date is set in a range....any friday pm or saturday am or pm in Mid Aug ''07- End Sept ''07.........this way we stay flexible but slices a month or more away from a traditional one-year planning stage.

k, so for my first question.....I hope this is in the right place (!)..........we have already found a reception site that suits our needs, desires AND budget (yay!!!) but the site coordinator has just informed us that they will be putting on a new roof and putting in new carpeting when they close down in January!!! I''m not in love with the present carpeting but I did like the security of knowing I could WORK with it and perhaps compliment it into my own decor. (It''s actually a fairly dark marroon color but goes nicely with thier uncharacteristic teak-wood tables........very beautiful in combination as it is overlooking the ocean). I was thinking of putting light purple accents in my flowers or something of the sort to make the room look ...........cohesive. NOW, however, the owner is tearing it up in 2 months and since she has 2 other co-owners......no one has yet to decide the carpet color!!! yikes.

I''ve been telling my FI that this presents a problem in that I want to start DESIGNING my color scheme etc and w/o knowing what the place will look like.........I could pick a celadon (light green) and ivory color scheme and end up with orange carpet or someting (not good in my opinoin). He doesn''t see really why that matters!

Any advice? Should we continue looking???? We put a date on hold and need to deposit in 2 wks from today to make it oficial. In the meantime, we will look around but we really think this place has it all for us!! Any way we could work around this/? Can I / should I put of color schemin'' until after January''s remodeling occurs? aiyiyiyiyi. This is really bothering me right now. Thank you for any help!!

Hello and welcome! If I were in this same position I would definitely ask them if they had a set decision on the renovations before putting down a deposit, unless that deposit was definitely 100% refundable (I don''t know if this is normal or not, so you would definitely need to ask). Also, I suggest you keep looking just in case they end up changing the room in a way that you don''t. It never hurts to keep looking, but I wouldn''t worry too much about how the place will turn out, and color schemes are easier to come up with than you would think! Good luck!

In this case, we are allowed to "hold the date" (VERY helpful!!!) for 2 weeks. Which we took advantage of today. But we have to give a NONrefundable deposit in 2 wks time. The only way we could get our money back is if the site is able to re-rent it. So, I am hoping they have made a confirmed decision by the end of two weeks so that I''m more at ease giving the deposit then. But if they havn''t reached a decision, I don''t know........

I guess your''e right......I suppose if I could work in maroon carpeting I can work in anything..........(I''m just PRAYING though that the carpet won''t be green.........I can just see it now.......this DARK green that will look like really dark, well, grass.

). I guess even then it would go with any greenery in my flowers lol.

I HOPE HOPE HOPE they choose a beige color to lighten things up in there. .........it''s a pretty spot but can look dark with all the wood and marroon carpeting.

Thank you for your reply!!! ;)

The carpet at my reception site was dark green, and they do weddings inside there all of the time, and they look gorgeous. If it IS dark green, I''m sure you will be able to work with it. Maybe a centerpiece that focuses around a warm golden color to complement the green? I don''t know... haha. But I definitely wouldn''t give them my deposit unless they had a concrete idea in mind. It''s just too much of a chance, especially if they change the design of the room and it ends up having a different "feel" rather than just a different color.

Are they redoing the whole room, or just replacing the carpet? If they''re just replacing the carpet and the place is otherwise perfect, I''d go ahead with it. You can wait to plan your color scheme, if it''s that important that it match the carpeting. Chances are they won''t go with orange or fuschia carpet, and I doubt your guests will really notice the carpet all that much anyway. If they''re doing the renovations in January, they''ll have to get planning sometime soon, anyway, so you should know soon enough.
