Bummer.
I loved his work.

Much of it won't be funny any more.
That's gotta be death for a comedian.

https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo...bated-in-front-of-them-new-york-times-reports

What IS it with these men? :nono:

And what about all the entertainment content these male Hollywood icons have produced over the years?
There's tons of it.
Do they pull it?
If not, will these guys if convicted of crimes still enjoy royalties?

The life/income of the nobody convicted sex offender down the street will pretty much be ruined.
But what about these guys who produce commercial entertainment that generates royalties forever?

Will any powerful men be left standing when all have been brought to justice?
Even former President Bush, the daddy, has apologized for grabbing womens' backsides.

Most importantly do you think this behavior will stop, or happen less, as a result of all the exposure this is getting?

Rumors/allegations have been circulating about him for years. This doesn't shock me. I think I posted about it awhile back but I can't remember what the thread was.
I'd love to say that there will be justice and things will change...but, I seriously doubt if anything will change. Probably more people will learn better ways of getting away with their bullshit.

I love comedy. I see comedians perform live as much as I can. I did not love Louis C.K.’s work. It was redundant. “I’m too old and fat for sex.” “Let me say something utterly shocking” “Let me talk about some sex stuff again.” wash, rinse, repeat, yawn.

There are some really fantastic comics out there that don’t need to lean on this M.O. to keep people entertained. They definitely aren’t out there using their act as a means for finding women to sexually assault.

What a creep.

Well, it looks like there’s a sexual revolution going on. It is one where the floodgates have opened and women will no longer be silent...I would love to know what percentage are actually coming forward. I would guess 10%.

What possesses someone to do that??? Gosh darn it I really like doing him too. :nono:

What a jerk!
He'll deserve all the upcoming consequences of his crimes.

IMO he's an extraordinarily intelligent, brilliant and talented person.
Just goes to show people are complex, not just one thing.
Hitler was a skilled watercolor painter.

Glad C.K. immediately faced the music and apologized, unlike Cosby and a zillion other men who deny it, run, pay off victims, etc.
But shame on him that it took a NYT story quoting/naming several women. :nono:

And again I think/hope we are at a turning point and men get it through their thick heads that they can't do this shit.
It has to stop.
Victims are more empowered now.
They know we (and the media) are listening.

These rumors have circulated for years and his answer was always "I focus on my work, not on my private life." He could have acknowledged this and apologized waaaaay sooner.

I’m so disgusted. I’m stating the obvious by saying no impulse control, but do all men fantasize about doing this type of thing but some can control themselves while others can’t? I’m sick of men exposing themseves (I’ve experienced it multiple times in my life as I’m sure many of you have) and acting this way! :angryfire:

Yup, this. His seemingly quick admittance and apology are nothing but him trying to save what’s left of his nasty ass. Good riddance.

No apology can make this all better, or make it go away.

I hope he's sued, prosecuted, and rots in jail.

OK so what am I missing? His actions were gross, creepy, and totally inappropriate, but did he actually commit a crime?

The accusers all said he asked for consent didn’t they? Some laughed and joked about it. Whenever someone said no he stopped correct? The threats described in the article sound like an agent who’s annoyed with the situation, not some conspiracy to abuse women.

His actions are completely wrong. He should be banned from any workplace where this behaviour occurred. People shouldn’t hire him. He deserves the label. The jail part is where I’m stuck.

Does this kind of thing really happen all the time? When you (collective) first meet someone they whip it out and/or get naked with no invitation or expectation by the whippee? No impulse control is right but what the hell kind of person does this? I have had it happen in the "controlled" environment but that is to be expected.

Yes, and why is it always men??? What goes on in their heads?
Why aren't women exposing themselves to men? Maybe they are and it doesn't make the news?
Can someone explain why men feel the need to do this? I asked my DH for a man's point of view, and he can't explain it, either.
A close relative of mine was jogging on a popular trail when a man exposed himself to her.
She called the police, of course, and he was never found.
Afterwards, she was very shaken. So Is it about sex, or shock value?
I have so many questions.

I just can't fathom this at all. My DH turned red when he saw my friend's bare pregnant belly. I don't want to be associated with anyone that has ever done this kind of thing.

It's about demonstrating dominance and contempt to a group of people you've been socialized to see as lower than you in the pecking order. Men do love their clearly defined hierarchies, after all. When some men learn that women, although they're supposed to be lower than them, have the temerity to still deny them access to their bodies, they get bitter and angry.

Not all men are like this though but it is disgusting that ANY are. I don't think I have met anyone in my life that would think this kind of behavior is ok. If I did they probably had other issues and weren't around me very long. I am sorry for people who have.

Well said, Ksinger. I think I understand a little more.

I did say some men. I am married to one of them, after all. He is one who simply can't fathom why these men do that, because his mind just doesn't work that way, and I can say with perfect assurance, that his home life did not teach him contempt for women. But still, he has become conscious of and unlearned a lot of chauvinism in his life. I've watched it happen over 38 years. He's changed his mind on many gender issues, including gay marriage.

Even men who are socialized well at home and would never dream of bad behavior (most men), go out and live and breathe daily in a culture that says women are less. No one totally escapes the greater societal currents. Even many strains of Christianity say this, in spite of attempts to doctor it up to look different. It's the basis for denying women the pulpit or the priesthood.

Society is changing, but we see the backlash at the change playing out right now.

I edited my original post (like always). My DH has a quite manly man father who is of the old school mom stays at home era and she was happy with this. This is completely different than disgusting sexual behavior imo though. DH was quite aware from the very beginning that he did NOT marry his mother. But he does see how other men talk about their wives and how young men talk to their mothers. He allows neither when it comes to me and I am so grateful. I can only hope that my sons will continue on the path he set.

As far as chauvinism there are many different types, some ok some not. To say that a woman cannot do certain jobs - like operate heavy machinery, change a tire, shoot a weapon, etc. just because she is a woman, those things are not ok. But to be respectful opening doors, pulling out a chair, etc., things like that are just nice IMO and not a negative.

I'm no lawyer but if:
1. He really did first ask every woman, "Can I pull it out and masturbate?"
2. Every woman didn't actually say, "No."
... then you may be right that no crime (on the books today) was committed.

STILL! it SHOULD be illegal.
If it's not we need a new law, or 50 new laws if it's a state thing.

The devil will be in the details but ...
Consider our laws relating to hate crime.
If I harm you AND it's proven that I'm straight and you're gay, or I'm race X and you're race Y the prosecutor can add a hate-crime charge which would increase the sentence.

It would take careful thought and it would have to be carefully named, but we need a Power/Sex law.

It's already illegal to rape or assault.
Pulling it out, masturbating, and ejaculating onto your chest when the viewer doesn't want you to has to be, or should be, a crime.
That they are in some way subordinate to you and too intimidated to object has to stop being an excuse ... it must be taken into consideration.
The bar of evidence should be lower when the perpetrator is in a position of power.

When there is a great power disparity (especially when jobs/careers are at stake) is true consent from underlings even possible?

I think we must enact new laws to get these men to behave.

I have so many questions.

Your post comes from the assumption of equality, sameness, and fairness but men and women are different.

I think the answer lies in biology, not sociology.
Men don't get pregnant.
Women do, then often carry the majority, sometimes all, of the burden of child rearing.
Not fair, but there it is.
Sex results in very different outcomes for men and women.

This results in males chasing females, but rarely vice versa.

Next, as a group, men are stronger.
This has resulted in men dominating women.
This shouldn't be, but it is.

ETA: Once again I'll add, trying to understand what's behind something is not condoning it.

We have a long, long way to go @kenny. We elected Trump and Roy Moore has many people defending him. Don't kid yourself, these things are still accepted by a large group of people in this country.

You’re right about biological differences. Tens if not hundreds of thousands of years of evolution behind us. Males were strong and hunted and provided and *took* whatever they wanted with regards to females. The females needed this to survive so it wasn’t exactly the courting ritual we have evolved to. Even later, as female offspring were considered undesirable, fathers offered up Dowries to entice and payoff mates for their daughters. Of course some cultures are still pretty slow to catch up. Women are still treated as chattel, but we have evolved. Much is still biology, but behavior has changed light years. I think we still have light years to go. Women are still treated as objects to dominate.

Oh my goodness no it doesn't! My apologies for the autocorrect.

LOL.
No problem. :mrgreen2:

Back then they called it, "it".

I am saddened. I really enjoyed the series "Louie". I think he is a brilliant commentator on every day life, and is more than about sex jokes. Even from his tv show, you could tell he had -"issues" I am glad he admitted he did it. Hopefully he will have a whole ton of bricks fall on his head for him to understand this was NOT OKAY. I agree that his admission was not a true apology. But an admission is the first step. I think if he does some real self-examination, is able to change he may be able to redeem himself. But for all those female comedians and other women working with him, glad he has been outed.
