I am looking for a pink sapphire pear shape ring approx btwn 2 and 4 carats. I would like for the color to range from light to medium pink. Ratio 1.5, excellent cut.

Looking for a stone that has lots of brilliance, fire and scintillation. Can anyone help me out with a site, or location in NYC or even a NJ if its not to far away from NY.

Thanks

Hi Girls-Best-Friend:
Well below are some sites that I have listed for you in helping you with your search. My Top picks are AwesomeGEms.com & cherrypicked.com. Both sites offer AGTA color cetificates for their stones and list region along with any enhancements done with the gems. I think you will see a lot of visual eye candy offered on these sites. You will have to weed through what you are looking for and the quality which is offered.

It is fun searching for your own stones, but I would also add that there are many vendors on this site which can source a stone with the specs you have provided and you can get down to the nitty gritty with them on how much you want to spend and the different qualities of gems being sold on the market. I searched and searched and had good luck with Palagems International and also have had good luck with cherrypicked.com. I ultimately had Robin and Todd from NiceIce source me a couple sapphires months ago because even though I did a lot of self-educating I still wanted someone in the trade who has been in the business and knows the business to head me in the right direction when I was choosing fine sapphires. It takes some of the risk out of the game and you might have to pay them a premium for them brokering a stone or stones for you, but in the long run the piece of mind that you know you received through dealing with someone reputable is priceless. There are many variables when buying colored gemstones and a good vendor will listen to your needs and provide you with all the information you will need. Some of the appraisers on this board also offer valuable information on sources that they have dealt with in the past and formed relationships with. You have many options. I hope you have fun searching and don't hesitate to post more questions. I spent a lot of time weeding out sites and talking with different vendors too so email me if you need any more help.

Have Fun!

Wow thanks so much of all this info. I came here when I was looking for my e-ring and found lots of info. So now that I am trying to educate myself on colored stones I figure go where you did for help with diamonds.

I really appreciate all you have done. Thanks millions. I love looking at eye candy!

Josh,

It is advice and "referrals" like yours that will foster our color gemstone market and many will follow thru this similar process.

Indeed, the color stone market can still use a great deal more so called "Ethics" . And if the consumer fears not about buying, it will continue to fuel the "demand" side of the gem trade and better cut gems will be "bought" up much faster on account of the "aesthetics" or better cuttings that will give the overall appearance its due credit.

Just remember that my obssession with good cut gems are that any given stone will always occupy somewhere around 80% of the viewing surface of any jewelry. Be that of a inexpensive gem or super expensive gemstone - the cutting and the aesthetics of the gemstone has to be there. Speically when there are really no real "shortage" of any color stones-- by me.

If the cutting improvement like with the HCA diamonds will eventually also be affecting (it already had ) the quality of cut gems in color.

This is great and the e-commerce of the color and diamond trade will fly - provided the buyers can ascertain the quality, the price and their are "recourse" . This forum, or forum like this will force many of the gem vendors to become more compliant.

But of course, for those who are not commpter ready they will have a tougher time with both question of credibility- but there are ample rooms for all to grow.

Try walterarnstain.com and israel-diamonds.com and multicolour.com (here ask too for non-posted stuff) and especially africagems.com. All these are among either the largeest or most reputable in the field. Good pinks (untreated too) were comming from Madagascar recently: get one!

Hope this helps

Give Simply Sapphires a try...www.simplysapphires.com
John Tolliver is very personable and will definately help you find that perfect sapphire. I puchased a fabulous 3.68 Emerald Cut "Baby Pink" Sapphire from him. Alot of people like the deep hot pink colors. I preferred the ligther pinks on the spectrum. (Although, many say the lighter pinks are inferior) Now, all I have to find is jeweler who'll custom make a platinum setting with trapezoid diamonds on the side. Anyone know of a good custom jeweler around the Melbourne, Florida area?

Thanks,
April

Hi!

Actually, when I saw your specs I ended up believing that you are in the market for the Grail! Not only good color pink sapphires are quite illusive, so finding a good one is a matter of money and inspiration, but to ask for a pear (unusual cut for these stones)! Well, I still think these are lucky finds, but I have just seen one and thought I'd share the nice sight:

Aside from this, there is a pink spinel there:

What did I mean by a nice pink color is represented below:

I do not know what shade of pink you prefer, if you do not have your mind set on this target, maybe the two extremes portrayed below help:

Just one more: this is what I like, the stones in which pink dreeps into orange...

Hope these are at least pleasant and that you find the rarity you desire!
