I'm considering having a 3+ cttw five stone ring made with OECs but want to make sure it will fit on my size 6.25 finger. If anyone has hand shots with larger stones, I would love to see them. Thanks!

And if you link her ring it is for sale at Jewels by Grace. She got a stunning OEC instead. Though I love her 5 stone. Once of the prettiest suites of old cuts ever.

Thanks ladies! Actually, armywife13's ring is the exact one that I want to purchase. I have already seen it in person and it is one of the most beautiful suites of stones that I have ever seen! This particular ring can't be sized down so I would re-set the stones into a u-prong. My concern is that I need a size 6-6.25 and it was made as an 8.25. Do you think a ring could be made to fit my finger? It would have to curve more around the finger, I suppose.

I would discuss with the vendor to see what they think. If you are truly nervous have a wax made and sent to you to see how it will fit.

That's a great idea! Thanks SB621!

I am pretty sure Phoenix sold hers because it was too big for her finger. The good thing is that you could order that ring and see how wide the diamonds are and return it if you felt it was too wide. They may be able to tell you the mm measurements of each stone, too. I am on my phone and can't look up the thread to see how it fit her finger. But stones that size really can't wrap around much.

I already tried on the ring and it was way too big for my ring finger. Here it is on my middle onephoto_209.jpg

I wonder if I could have the top of the ring more rounded like this

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

Is it a RHR? Because I really like it on your middle finger.

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

Thanks for your input Dreamer! It would be a RHR. My first choice is for the ring finger, but I love it so much I was thinking it might work on the middle finger as a second choice. Unfortunately, I don't have long fingers and I was concerned it looks weird as a middle finger ring.

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

I guess it depends on your personal preference. For me, I prefer right hand rings on the middle finger as the asymmetry with the left hand pleases me, and also because I find it more comfortable when using my right hand. Those diamond are so huge, too, that I think they work better on a bigger finger so you don't have any overhang. Since it seems to fit that middle finger can you wear it for a while and see what you think? Another option is a four stone ring if you don't have the real estate but love the bigger stones. While not common now, four stone rings were super common in the period when those diamonds were cut. You could sell one of the set or use it for another project.... I do think bigger is better with these old stones but even for me, I think five stones that size on a size six finger might be over the top!

Agree with everything DD said! And also like the middle finger. I know not super popular on PS but I wear many of my RHR's on my middle finger. I just like the look and also find it more comfortable for me.

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

I think it looks amazing as a middle finger RHR! In fact that was my original plan before I fell head over heels for something and had to let it go. Anyways, my vote is to try it out as a middle finger RHR for a while and see if it grows on you. You can always reset later on if you decide you don't want to wear it on the middle finger.

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

It is so beautiful! I think you could easily reset 4 of the stones as that would fit either finger better and just use the extra stone in a pendant or something! Even curved, 5 isn't going to work because it would be between your fingers. But 4 looks like a much better fit! I love it for the ring finger and not on the middle, personally.

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

Thank you so much for all of your responses! I did not realize that 4 stone rings were once popular, so thanks for pointing that out Dreamer! That is definitely something to consider. I agree that wearing this ring on the middle finger is very comfortable, but I'm not sure how flattering it is with my short fingers. I have emailed SK about this situation for a custom u-prong setting for my ring finger, and he assures me the stones will fit comfortably. I don't see how this is possible....

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

I am confused about the short fingers comment... Surely your middle finger is longer than your ring finger?

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

My fingers in general are short=not so pretty hand.

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

Here's another 5 stone I am considering with smaller stones. What do you think of the faceting?5stone.jpg

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

I meant if you are concerned about a short middle finger, that same problem would exist for your ring finger :sun: I read your previous comments as implying that shortness concerned you about your middle but not your ring finger... I don't think your fingers are too short, I am more concerned about the L to R coverage and overhang. In a ring that fits for your ring finger, if it's made right, the stones would sit down between your fingers not sit up on top of the adjoining fingers. Despite what Steven says I cannot imagine with such deep stones it would be comfy  four stones would fit just right though and would look smashing.

If this is the eBay seller I think it is their descriptions are always way off and their customer service poor. I think the right-most diamond is also flat and mismatching the rest. What size are the diamonds? Honestly to get zero overhang you likely need 4.5mm stones at max. Which is a totally different look than those big ones you like in the ring you have now.

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

Thanks for pointing the flat stone out Dreamer. I didn't "love" the stones on that ring like I do on armywife's former one. I don't mind some overhang, I just want the ring to look pretty and not be uncomfortable. SK just sent me an email when I asked how he would make the stones fit and he said he would align the stones on the mandrel size 6.25 and then calculate the height the stones must sit in. He said he will make sure the ring is as low as possible and doesn't bother me between the fingers.

Re: Looking for Hand Pics of 3 cttw or Larger Five Stone Rin

I have a Trellis ring that I wear on my right ring finger. It is size 6.25 (same size as yours), so I think it will be helpful to you. The stone sizes are as follows: (carat size, dimensions in mm)
0.504 ct, 5.13x5.17x3.16
0.510 ct, 5.12x5.15x3.16
0.512 ct, 5.14x5.17x3.16
0.513 ct, 5.13x5.16x3.17
0.541 ct, 5.24x5.26x3.23

Average diameter of each diamond = 5.167mm
Total carat weight = 2.58 ctw

The Trellis ring is very comfortable. I do not feel any diamonds or metal in the way (between fingers). The heights of the diamonds are just right.

The diamonds are all ideal cut, ACA's, so their dimensions are typical of most ideal cut round brilliants. If you are getting other cut, just make sure that the average diameter is no more than 5.2mm (or total diamond length is no more than 26mm). For older cuts that are deep, you may be able to fit 3 ctw diamonds.

Of course, in addition to diamond size, the style and shape of the setting play a role. I believe both U-prong (shared prong) and Trellis style settings should work. Just make sure that you do not insert more melees such as haloes in between the diamonds.

I am attaching photos for your reference. In these photos, I just happened to wear the rings on my left fingers.

Hope the information helps.

Thanks for the helpful info Fancy Diamond! Both of your rings are gorgeous! The OECS that I am looking at are between 5.5-5.6mm.

You are welcomed.
Just too bad. This is the only one time that we wish we had fat fingers.
