Hi,

I am new to this forum, but I am looking for some help in picking a princess cut diamond that is within my price range and is good quality. I read about princess diamonds on the forums and found that its hard to pick a princess cut that will sparkle. I would need an ASET image to get an idea or a AGSO grade by AGSL. My price range is from 4000-5000 dollars for the loose stone with the following properties: G-H in color, VS2-SI1 in clarity, prefer to have it exactly 1 carat in weight if possible.

Also would it be better to buy online or direct from a dealer if you know someone with a business license.

Thanks for your responses.

I found two AGS0, great Aset Princess cuts at the top end of your price range and within your requested requirements. It pains me but unfortunately, I cannot discuss them at the moment. If you have any questions, please contact the PS Admin.

Check the Aset of that WF H color stone. It could be good but it might be a little deep.

Upon further review, there are three ideal cut H VS2's for less than those I's - so I wouldn't settle for an I, unless you like that color... and some people do.

Also- keep in mind tht you do not necessarily want a princess stone with an extremely thin- thin girdle. Princess stones have more of a risk of chipping on the girdle if the girdle is tooo thing.

Have you thought about settings yet?

I would like to the diamond to be set in a cathedral type ring that also has a halo pave setting.

What about going to an independent jewelry dealer? One in which you would need a business license for?

I looked at the james allen rings and i have asked for the ASET images. I will post them once i get them in a few days.

not sure about this, as I don't know much of anything along these lines. Are you thinking of going to a jewelry store? Or is this like a "jewelry exchange" location where independent jewelers have counters set up in the location?

Re: Looking for a Princess Cut Diamond for an engagement rin

i think its a jewelry exchange. You need a business license but again don't know how good the quality is but i have heard they are much much cheaper than regular stores in the mall but not sure how they compare to online stores.

Re: Looking for a Princess Cut Diamond for an engagement rin

hmm, I dont have personal experience, BUT my friend was proposed to with a ring from a jewelry exchange. DOn't get me wrong, the ring & stone look really nice to me- I have no idea the specs on the stone (no idea color, clarity, cut grade, carat) and no idea on what the cost was. Another friend took my best friend days later to look for a ring for his gf- and they went to the same jewelry exchange her ring was bought from (her FI bought it without her).... when she walked in with my boyf she said, "I can't believe he bought my ring here".... I dont know why she said it- what made her feel that way, etc. Also, the other friend told me he didn't feel as thought it was a better deal.

However, an educated buyer can def find good deals...

educate yourself on the different certifiying labs....

GIA AGS EGL IGI- GIA and AGS are stricter labs regarding their color and clarity grading.

SOOO an EGL H VS2 may actually be graded by GIA or AGS as I-J SI1-SI2. Keep that in mind when looking ar stones, many times stores/dealers will say, "This is an EGL G VS1 and you are getting a great deal...it's way underpriced" BUT if you compare it to GIA or AGS stones that are I SI1 (probably what the EGL is actually if GIA were to grade it)...the pricing is similar. So not exactly a "deal".

Also, know that a poorly cut stone, will in many times be way tooo deep- so it will lack sparkly and face up much smaller than its carat weight, or way too shallow- sure it will face up bigger than a stone that is the same carat weight, but it will have leakage and be lacking sparkle.

Educate yourself on Cut, Clarity, and Color. Find out what color ranges and clarity ranges you are comfortable with.

Re: Looking for a Princess Cut Diamond for an engagement rin

yeah, nothing wrong with going to a jewelry exchange (are you talking about the one in SF?) but you should read up to make sure you are making an informed decision. Unfortunately it is hard to judge princess cut quality without ASET unless you get an AGS0 princess and those are not as common and pricey. A well-cut princess will be really sparkly and a poorly cut one will look sort of dead and :knockout: If you go to the jewelry exchange try to examine the diamonds in different lighting, because the spotlighting makes everything look super sparkly

Thanks Iota. Those look really good and within my price range. Can someone verify that the ASET for the 1.01 carat diamond provides quality brilliance.

Looks fantastic. I think it's also a branded superideal (though my connection is a little wonky so not all the pages are displaying right).
