is it best to have a vendor match them for you? has anyone done this?

HI bgray,
My experience is that matching cushions are a unique item. Unlike round diamonds, trying to match cushions s a lot more complex. Different shapes and facet patterns mean that it's unlikely that two random stones will match.
I like to find matching pairs cut by the same cutter- which is a specialty item many dealers may offer.

I would absolutely have a vendor match cushions, I wouldn't try to do it myself, unless it's an AVC, and even then I'd confirm with GOG to make sure it was a good match before buying.

Match for what?
For a ring I'm going to be a lot more particular about the nuances than for earrings, say.

Either way ditto Gypsy & David - I'd have my vendor match them, and I'd just take care to pick a vendor whose eye for cushions I trust ::)

ETA: DBL, GOG, and ERD would be my shortlisted vendors for matched cushions.
ETA: And Leon, though I don't think I'm a terribly good candidate for working with him :halo:

yes earrings :twirl:

is GOG slow to respond normally.? I havent received any reply so i put a hold on 2 stones. If i get no reply and I dont pay the balance does the reserve expire and my card gets credited? not sure how it works

Agreed to let the vendors do it. I tried and now I have a bunch of mismatched singles.

I think it's easier to match AVCs or even newly cut cushions. Well matched antique cuts are really hard.

My friend just took a trip to NYC to buy a diamond and setting. He visited with ERD, Leon/Perry, Adam, IDJ and Steven Kirsch. He really liked Mark and felt Mark went above and beyond - his call to me in an excited voice "Mark really bought it". He ended up buying from Mark a cushion and Mark will be making his setting (in am amazing 1 week to meet timelines). His second pick was Steven Kirsch who went above and beyond but unfortunately ... the diamonds didn't work out.

Definitely not too small! Specialty cuts in very high colour - they are the *definition* of luxury :sun:

How will you set them? I really like that they're squares for earrings - takes away the worry that one might spin long-end sideways or something halfway through your day at work - I don't know why I always worry about that, I know plenty of people who wear ECs and pears without any issues! ::)

Thanks Yssie: Thats what I was thinking. Small but special. I like how squarish they are too. I was thinking about bezel set with a post and lever back for security and a small space or loop where I could attach pearls.........

You lost me - what do you mean by post *and* leverback? Like - convertible earrings, somehow? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that!

They'd be stunning in bezels - I vote with milgrain! I'm thinking they'd look pretty stunning in halo jackets too :Up_to_something:

a post that goes through the ear but a lever back (attached at the base of the bezel ) that snaps up over the end of the post for security

Oh - wait a minute. I think I *do* know what you mean, actually - I think I've seen it in pics of some antique earrings... though never IRL that I know of.

LOL. Okay, thanks for posting that - turns out I didn't in fact know what you meant, I was envisioning something else.
Do you already have earrings like that? Do you like how they hang in your ears? Well - I guess that's pretty adjustable, if you know what you like.
