Need help finding a nice oval engagment ring. Budget is apprx 6k. Would like to be at about 1.0 +\- .15, e-g color, and want = or better than a vs2/1. I'm not a fan of just a solitaire setting, and not huge on a halo setting. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks... And of course I want it ASAP. Her dad is real sick, and I'm kinda old school so I want to ask his permission/ blessing before he gets worse, and we are also expecting a baby so I'd like her to be able to wear it for a little before she gets too big :-)

Thanks in advance
James

YES! I have been waiting for someone to post wanting a great oval. So excited!

Nice ovals are really hard to find, and this one is EXCEPTIONAL and I've been smitten with it for weeks!
I know you said VS clarity, but with ovals you have to be flexible and buy for performance. As long as the stone is eyeclean and above Si1 you are fine.

So just ask if this one is eyeclean: http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/11794/ $5,559
My second choice (and also phenomenal) is this one: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11849/ $4,622. It meets all your requirements but one, it is just shy of a full carat t 90 points but the face up is huge at 5.2 x 8 so trust me it will look like a full carat stone, and you can see yourself (compare the MEASUREMENTS) to the full carat stone it it is just about the same size. And it leaves you more budget for a setting.

And Good Old Gold makes GREAT comparison videos and can make one for you ASAP to compare those two and pick one!

So you want something other than a solitaire but want it in a rush, the best advice I have is to call Good Old Gold and just ask them to send you pictures of diamond sidestone settings under 1000 dollars that they have IN STOCK. They are a brick and mortar store so they have stock in the store (which is what you need).

Or you can stick it in a temporary and inexpensive solitaire and upgrade the setting together later. Which gets you the timing you need.

I know you just started looking, but trust ne, these are exceptional ovals. Honestly in all my time on these boards I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen ovals this nice.... and I'd still have fingers left over.

If you don't want to do a temp solitaire setting then upgrade the setting later (which would be the quickest way to go) I'd shoot for something like one of these:

Chrisjj, the ovals that Gypsy posted look amazing and I am sure GOG would take care of you. I hate to hear about her dad.

Very nice ovals, Gypsy. That first one is

I like this one,

If you notice, though its a .9 ct, it looks the same MM size as this stone but i think its more attractive, better color, and less expensive.

Im a fan of this setting if they would do it for an oval. Plat or even rose gold would be lovely!

I normally like your fancy choices, but I'm not feeling that one. The 90 point D VS from GOG I posted is only 200 dollars more, has no bowtie and is significantly larger than this one. This one is chubby, but the face up is small and it has a bowtie, though it is small. Still, I would be shocked if it has an ASET that can compare with either of the ones from GOG.

The entire purpose of faceting a diamond is to reflect light.
How well or how poorly a diamond does this determines how beautiful it is.
How well a diamond performs is determined by the angles and cutting. This is why we say cut is king. With fancies though (anything other than a round brilliant), that is a little complicated. But no other factor: not color, not clarity has as much of an impact on the appearance of a diamond as its cut.

There really is no other way to determine if you have a good ovals is to see images of the stones, and then you need is a way to check actual light performance of your actual stone.

That's what an ASET image does. http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=education-performance Please read.
And ASET shows you how and wear your diamond is reflecting light, how well it is going at it, and where you are losing light return That is why you won't see us recommending vendors like Blue Nile, as they do not provide images or ASET images for their diamonds. James Allen and Good Old Gold do this. So do Brian Gavin and Whiteflash and High Performance Diamonds.

the GOG stones both have very strong ASETs posted for ovals. Ovals tend to have a lot of obstruction and light leakage and bowties.

So finding one is very hard. When I say those are both exceptional stones I mean it. I would either of those two in a heartbeat and consider myself more than lucky to get such a nice oval.

I do recommend you call GOG and ask them for a video comparing the two side by side for you. And they will have settings in house they can get you ASAP, and mail out to you that same day for overnight delivery.

If you wanted to work with JA you would need to put the diamonds on hold and ask for an ASET. Which will take 3 business days. Which is why recommended GOG.
