Ok, well you were all a big help in stone hunting. Thank you. I have learned lots about cushions, and they seem to be tough to buy online, but I'm making progress.

Now for the setting, I have been TOLD what it has to look like. She is OK with it not being actual harry winston, but she wants it to look spot on.

I just don't think those other settings compare.

And buying a cushion can be pretty painless if you look at Good Old Gold's August Vintage cushions, if they have something that falls in your specs.

He offered to supply the stone as well, Im leary of doing that as I cant see it well. It seems like good old gold has the best resources for buying a stone with all the info they provide.

I would make sure your GF is fine with lower colored diamonds especially as low as L or K.
I would make sure she has seen and is okay with a round diamond one color grade lower than the cushion color you are considering, rounds face up whiter than cushions. She should see the diamond in different lighting especially in low diffuse light.

Yes you can get a much bigger size for the same budget in lower colors but to some the warmth or tint may be bothersome.

I would agree that I wouldn't go lower than J color. Usually I would say I color, but I think cushions can still look nice with a little warmth. The 2 ct. J stone is beautiful for a non-antique style. One of the best I've seen. Are you the one that has it on hold?

I would guess modern all things equal because I would expect it to shine more.

Good Old Gold has their August Vintage stones cut for maximum light performance, so those will actually out perform many modern cushions. I also strongly prefer the antique style cushions, but they don't have a lot in your size/color requirements at the moment.

I don't think modern will 'shine' more but will have smaller sparkles as opposed to broader flashes of light.

back from the dead....

have any of you noticed that harry winston has a NEW ring?? A NEW MICRO PAVE HALO!
It is an oval stone. I am going to beverly hills salon friday to check it out. there are 4 in the USA and are all 100k.

I assume the ring looks just like the cushion, but want to see myself.

on a side note, has anyone ever used solomon bros to have a custom ring made? they told me it is hand made and not cast, but i am a little skeptical.

Well I am now engaged. Maytal Hannah made the ring. I bought the stone.from her supplier. It I'd a 2.01 f color si2 vg cut vg symmetry.
Ring is platinum size 6 with about .89 ct in stones. Pics speak for themselves.
