Light return?

How does the light return % affect a gem stone?

I am currently deciding on the cut design for a pair of 5mm x 5mm tourmaline, which will be made into a pair of earrings. I wonder how the light return woul affect the performance of the stones.

i believe light return basically measures brilliance. the light comes from above the table of the stone, reflects twice inside the gem against the pavillion and then returns to your eye as brilliance.

performance, as far as i can tell, is how much you like your final piece of jewelry.

if performance means brilliance to you, then thats basically saying you want more light return.
