Let's play a game... rainbow gems.

My new ‘blurple’ sapphire from Finewater Gems just arrived today (Gary was amazing to work with!), so I thought I would take a picture of some of my unset coloured gems (plus a jadeite ring, as I don't have an unset green stone and I believe we're up to green).

What a line up, my friend!! Mr. blurple is fantastic!! Really, he's just the perfect sapphire shade. We need to get you a yellow gem now. :P2

So gorgeous, @Bookwyrm. Is the Jedi spinel fr @Dr_Diesel?
The blurple is such fun!

Thank you! Mr. Blurple - what a fitting name!

I’m not sure if I like yellow-yellow gemstones, but I’d definitely be open to a golden brown old cut pear. That one’s been on my bucket list for a while. Seems very hard to find though…I missed one earlier this year, and it still makes me sad!

Hi Crimson! Thank you! Yes, that little Jedi spinel is from Dr. Diesel. My friend actually bought it originally then I bought it from her later on. I think I actually like that little pinkish one more than the red-red, as it’s just noticeably brighter in person (which I didn’t think would be possible). I’ve never seen anything quite like it, and will now be using it as my reference stone if I ever go looking for more Jedi spinels! I wouldn’t say no to a larger version (if I can ever find one)…

I was going to tag you, but didn't want to seem presumptuous! Yes, ma'am. What a spectacular addition to our little "porch." Absolutely gorgeous!! You know what I also wanted to say? I like that you went with round prongs here. I was thinking how all we see are claws these days, which I love, but the rounded will always be classic. And they clearly go better with "antique" inspired designs.

What about the tiny purple sapphires in my rainbow eternity?

I purchased it secondhand, but according to the listing from Faberge their default size is:
  • 18K Rose Gold
  • 9 round blue sapphires Total Weight 0.10ct
  • 1 round brilliant white diamond Total Weight 0.01ct
  • 9 round orange sapphires Total Weight 0.10ct
  • 4 round pink sapphires Total Weight 0.04ct
  • 6 round rubies Total Weight 0.06ct
  • 10 round tsavorites Total Weight 0.09ct
  • 10 round violet Sapphires Total Weight 0.12ct
  • 2 round yellow Sapphire Total Weight 0.02ct
You might be able to see that there are a few sapphires in the ombre that I feel like I desperately want to switch with each other, but not enough to risk actually having someone do it. So I will just have to live with my maybe slightly off ombre!

This is gorgeous, NTJ (I'm a sucker for graduated coloration)!! And so is that hunk of satin gold beauty on your ring finger. :mrgreen2: I am planning a sort of ombre sapphire project myself, so this is particularly apt for me! I just received the 2mm stones from Thailand. It's a ways off in the queue though, unfortunately.

About switching/replacing stones, I think this piece looks phenomenal as-is. However, for anyone who does have the itch, if the pave stones have their own 4 prongs (which is the case here), it shouldn't be too risky when done by a capable jeweler. However, if your pave stones have shared prongs... skip it. There's a delicate balance there, which, if upset, can cause a domino effect. Ask me how I know - never again!!

Pink spinel's with a hint of orange

Ugh... I love to see them in their rough state. They look like the most delicious candy. But that faceted stone on the lower right is exceptional!

And we're back to RED once again.

The funny thing is I always ask for claw prongs and somehow I almost always end up with round prongs. This was no exception. I'm pretty sure the jeweller straight up disregarded my request because he thought "she doesn't know what she's talking about, I'm gonna make this look gooood"... and he did. Can't deny that the way the prongs hold the stone, while still secure, leaves so much of the face up unobscured that the oval line is entirely undisturbed at eye level.

I'll be honest, the first thing I noticed here were the round pink sapphires of the statement ring. I thought that was what you were showing until I read the text. :D

Oh man, I think you've unlocked a new item on my wishlist :kiss2:

I'm not normally a big fan of pink but this orangey pink (especially the sublime rough) reminds me of the tastiest pink pomelo (where my name comes from!) or the ripest peach.

Hot dang...

I love that color to. But they are not so often as many other shades of pink. Always I had the chance I bought them. When Ive time I make a group foto of the ones I still have. Some I sold to people that were on the search for padparadscha sapphire and ended up very satisfied with such a spinel as the color and saturation is often better. Especially for the cost.

I'm happy to be ignored if the final result exceeds my expectations!
