Length of relationship before engagement

Thought I''d do a companion poll to the one in LIW. I''m curious as to how it will compare.

We dated a little over 4 years. Were together almost 5 1/2 yrs when we got married.

He proposed a week before our 2 year anniversary. We'll be celebrating our 4 year anniversary a month and a half after we're married.

My fi proposed just about two months shy of our 2nd anniversary. It''ll be 2 years and 7 months on our wedding day!

Until I was writing out the poll questions, I hadn''t ever realized how short a time it really has been! It feels like I''ve known him for my whole life, although that could just be my poor grasp on time. It certainly seems like he''s known me my whole life. It''s a little disconcerting to realize that you''re an open book to someone else.

FI proposed 12 days before our 13 month anniversary and our wedding will be a bit over a month after our 2 year anniversary. That sounds really quick, but it definitely doesn''t feel that way.

We were together a little over 3 and a half years before he proposed, living together for 1 year. We''ll be married about 6 weeks before our 5th anniversary.

It felt like he was really dragging it out, but I realized the other day that the first "state of the union" conversation that mentioned marriage, a little after a year together, I said I think that we should be married by the time we''d been together 5 years... that was long enough to know... he said yeah, he figured we''d be engaged by then and I was thinking "MARRIED" by then! Luckily he followed my wishes, even if that first conversation was sort of unclear. I told him that the other day and he said "see, you were worried for nothing!"

We were engaged just a few days after we''d been dating for a year and a half. We''ll be getting married a couple of months before our three year anniversary. We also worked together/were pretty good friends for a little over a year before we started dating. We''ve also never had to do the long distance thing (well, there were those 8 months he was in Iraq), but those were circumstances beyond either of our control. Since last November we''ve practically lived together, we were in the same apt complex but I mostly stayed at his place, and here in Korea we each have our own room, but I spend most of my time in his room

We dated for 9 months, decided to marry... one month later (at 10 mos) we got engaged and one month later (at 11 mos) we got married. That was 15 years ago Of course I had already known him for 15 years prior to dating and 16 prior to marriage... I think that has to be factored in at least a little even though we dated less than a year LOL We met in 75 when I was 5 and he was 3

We also always celebrated our dating anniversary (which was two consecutive days - long lurid story

) and our 4th anniversary of being together we forgot about it and a couple months later I looked at him and said omg we forgot to celebrate it!! He was like you're right! So I thought about what we were doing and I looked at him and I said, OMG we were having a baby that day!! We thought that was funny - we never celebrated it again because of her birthday... and then 7 years later we had another baby on the *other* of those two days! And our other child is also that same week so every year we have one big party for their birthdays but it also celebrates when we got together, to us

We moved in together after 4 years (we met junior year of college, then I stayed to do my masters) and got engaged at about 4.5 years. We''ll have been together 6 years when we get married.

Strm and I were introduced in Sept 1997, and finally after a year of arguing - giggle - we decided to give in to the feelings, so became a couple in October 1998. We became engaged Sept. 6, 2003 and re-engaged on July 13, 2006. Right now, we still do not have a wedding date - sure would be nice to think it could be next fall, but still things to be taken care of, but as they say, "Good things come to those who wait!" Thought I should add that I was 15 and he was 17 when we started dating.

Sadly, don't live together yet due to financial issues.
