I am deciding between these two rings to propose to my gf. I really cannot decide which is the better ring to go with. I love both of them but its so hard. I know le vian is a really good name but vera wang is weddings. Any help would be great ty.

Also the levian has the band in the picture to just ignore that lol.

Le Vian often uses rose gold - which is not for everybody. I can't wear it because it blends too well with my skintone. Also, I'd prefer a major piece of jewelry like that to be similar to the metals I usually wear (for me that would be either white gold/platinum or yellow gold, but I think most women these days favor white gold.) So for me, that would leave the Vera Wang - if you're intent on buying by name only. If you're open to buying for quality and value, let us know your budget and what styles you're looking at, and we can help you get the maximum bang - not to mention the most beautiful diamond and ring - for your buck.

Good luck!

ETA - the two rings you chose as examples are very, very different in style. Do you have a good idea of what your GF might want? If not, can you ask her, or her friends, or just take her on a "oh my goodness here's a jewelry store -look at that!" trip just to see what styles she's most interested in? Some enterprising men have even checked out their GF's Pinterest pages and found - surprise! - some hints there! This is a big and important purchase, and you want to get something that she'll love rather than what some design house is trying to sell.

These two brands are really that brands they are using celebrity or "kleenex " recognized names to get you to buy like all the masses. I wouldn't buy either. Its like shopping at Lord and Taylor, Jared or Kay Jeweler. If you like these styles we will help you find quality settings with these feelings that are made with better quality workman ship and stones.

What is your budget and what size stone are you looking for also give us your first choice of settting.

Here is a magnificant cushion cut halo for round diamond. Need to know what size stone and your budget

We'll both these rings are 2800 around and they have a half carat center round diamond. I have looked at Brian Gavin James Allen and blue Nile and none of them have a fancy or unquie setting in this price range so that's why I am looking at these 2 pieces if u can show me something better plz do.

We could get you something lovely. What's the budget? 2800? Or was that stretching it?

Did you want a round centre stone?

If forced to pick between either of those it would be the Vera Wang. The LeVian would appeal maybe to some but very much not to others.

Do you know that your GF wants 'fancy' or 'unique'? Are her tastes classic or trendy? Is she young or older? A safe bet is to get a nice stone in a simple, inexpensive setting so she can set it according to her own tastes in time.

what would you think of this

or there are lots more options on that website for settings...unique ones. :wavey:

You'd be much better of avoiding those mall stores, they overcharge of settings and their stones are poorly cut and grade.

+1 with what Niel said... and I love the bolded setting above -- a little different, but classic and lots of "look" for the money. :))

She loves vintage like the vera wang piece but also zales is a legit company a lot if these online dealers gane no warranty or stores to go to so that worrys me. But the vera is a si1 and h color that seems good. The other thing is it has to be round and have sapphires in the band. I'm so torn on what to do and my budget is max 3000 no more. Is there any thing online from a safe dealer?

All of these online stores that we have recommended or mentioned are safe and reputable. In regards to the comment about "warranty" google pricescope and Zales or Jareds warranty and see what people say. Others have more information than I, but from my understanding they don't mean much. You buy a nice ring and you get it insured.

Saying its H SI1? Who graded it? GIA? EGL? something else? Also, how is the cut? saying its an H SI1 doesn't give you enough information to tell you if what you're buying is going to be a good performing diamond.

If she likes vintage what do you think of this?

the company that sells that makes custom settings, i would ask them to make this type of target ring with the remaining budget

I understand the reluctance to buy online. My boyfriend and I would have never considered it 2 months ago. But then we discovered PriceScope. This forum is full of very knowledgeable people who will help you get the best bang for your buck. Take their advice. You won't regret it.

Where's the "Vera Wang" ring from, Zales or Kohls? Vera Wang makes rings for Zales like Martha Stewart makes pots and pans for K-Mart. Don't buy something just for the name.

It's from zales but it's a very pretty piece and for 2300 otd it's a good price to for what it is.

The links given to you above for Gabriel and Co settings and Good Old Gold diamonds come from a family-owned jewelry store in NY. They were in business long before they started a website. Many of us here have bought from them, and I have done so more than once. They are honest and I have absolutely zero concerns. In fact, I have far more concerns about the quality of something from Zales.

So while I would 1000 times rather have one of the Gabriel rings above, if I had to choose between the two you posted, the Vera Wang wins. To be honest, I extremely dislike the Levian rings. I would never buy that unless the girl herself said it was her dream set.

Please take a look at the settings and diamonds posted from Good Old Gold. But first, look at the video on the top right of their webpage here:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/Home/

We are just trying to steer you to a better jeweler and better quality diamonds.

This ring you posted does not have a center stone of a half carat. It only has one-third carat (.33).

http://www.zales.com/product/index.jsp?productId=13315566

diamond color is H-I
clarity is SI2-I1

I am sure it is not a GIA graded center stone, so it could be even lower than they stated. It is not a good deal. It is poor quality stones in a fairly common halo setting that can be found elsewhere in much better quality. Gabriel is better quality than this.

So u think I should go with something else? Ok I guess I will keep looking

The problem you have is that the quality of the diamonds particularly the cut quality which gives a diamond it's fire and sparkle is not listed and is usually therefore average to crappy at both Le Vian and Vera Wang. Everyone here is steering you towards a much better quality, nicer, and more sparkly centre diamond which on the hand will look not only better, sparkle more and visually appear bigger but will also be better value for your money. If you can get a better centre diamond, that is bigger, nicer to look at, in a pretty setting for the same budget then that would be my recommendation as well. Everyone is also steering you towards well priced better quality settings as well.

Start at somewhere like James Allen, Whiteflash, Good Old Gold, or Brian Gavin, find a decent high quality centre diamond in your budget and then pick a setting that you think she will like in a similar style to the halo you listed above (because I agree your second choice isn't a popular style unless she picked it) or something else that you think she will like in your budget.

Wink is having a sale at the moment these are VERY nice diamonds in your budget;

The issue I am having is not finding a setting as nice as the vera. I look at these sights like gavin and allen and nile and there setting that are somewhat close to the wang are like 2,000 for the setting, which I cannot do. I know she likes a vintage setting with diamonds. So whats a good center without a great setting. I love the blue signature by brian gavin but his settings are to much for me. Also the james allen site and blue nile the settings are just so much. This is so depressing I feel like I am being shown great diamonds with impossible to afford settings grrrrrrrrrrr.

Wink's site isn't making the price of this working brilliantly at the moment but I think this one is $1390.00 less a 15% discount if you email and hassle him plus either of the two stones I linked you to above and it is still less than $3000.00.

Alternatively a lot of people including myself would suggest spending the bulk of your budget on the centre stone so again like the .73 I linked above or something similar that is a bit bigger and going for a simple solitaire setting. You can find brand new solitaire settings for under $1000.00, people have suggested some nice vintage style Gabriel ones above for less than $1000.00 or alternatively choose a bigger centre diamond and go for a preloved setting like this to begin with and then at an anniversary or special occasion buy a halo setting later;

http://loupetroop.com/listings/settings/reduced-14k-yg-4-prong-solitare-semi-mount-brian-gavin-size-6-dot-5

Alternatively keep watching DiamondBistro and Loupetroop there are some really great bargains that turn up there.

You wanted Rose gold this is the same size centre stone as the settings you linked us to you could make an offer on it, then rip it out of there and put it into a halo type setting;

http://loupetroop.com/listings/rings-natural-diamond-center/gia-0-dot-38ct-triple-ex-i-si1-diamond-set-in-14kt-rose-gold-semi-bezel-ring

Another Rose Gold setting set with all Antique diamonds, make them an offer it is not far off your budget;

If custom work is possible for you, I think you might be able to get something that looks close to the 2 rings you showed while still getting a great center stone. You might want to check in with some of the well loved vendors who offer such services.

NEIL !!!!! you've done it again !

THIS !!!!
an August VINTAGE Round,,,,,,, how could you go wrong.....
This stone would be AMAZING, Geez, you would really be proud of this one !!!

And Good Old Gold has the Gabriel settings, and anyway, I am almost positive they have worked
with others on this site to find a setting that is just right and fits within the purchaser's budget...
They are bound to be able to sub sapphires for diamonds in a setting you would like....
At least give them a call it CAN'T HURT, and see what they say !!!!

I am the mother of 4 sons, and I feel for you, 3 K IS a lot of money, but spend it wisely !!!!
Don't get depressed, call Good Old Gold, this is your lucky day, I'm telling you !!!!!!!

wouldn't that be lively shiny? I think that would be the most beautiful. But if it has to have sapphires,I'm not sure thats the ideal one. Which is too bad, because thats killer for 3k

if she likes vintage what would you think of this

you could get the three diamonds replaced with sapphires, that would add the sapphire element. Its got a halo, and an airline one at that so it'll look nice and large, and Pearlmans has it on their website for 1500, so you could ask what good old gold could do for you... Its probably less.
with this
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11520/

so id be like " Any chance to get this setting with these chances and this diamond for under3k"

if not then id do this one.

I agree with everyone else - I would go with neither of those rings and/or jewelers. You have been given some good advice here and some decent options.

Why does it have to have sapphires? The LeVian setting was not antique nor did it have sapphires.

You have been shown some outstanding settings. This one particularly is a fantastic price!

This is a diamond few people in the world will have one like:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11749/

But you could also go larger in a traditional round brilliant:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/11714/

Or go with a lesser expensive stone and get a halo:
