Hi ladies! In about 20 minutes I''m leaving for my LASIK appointment, and I could use some dust! I don''t know how soon I''ll check this - I plan on taking a sedative when I get home and sleeping off the first few hours. I''m excited and nervous, and right now, very hungry! (which is a sign that I should get off my butt and go get some cereal!

).

Wish me luck!

Lots of dust (and prayers) coming your way BEG. Try not to worry. It''s going to go fine. Have a nice little nappy-nap when you get home. It will help to calm you. We''ll talk to you soon!

Oh good luck! Let us know how everything goes.

I''m thinking of having this done this year myself, so I''d love to hear more about what I can expect.

PS--I have a feeling you''re going to be thrilled

You''ll be sleeping as soon as you get home!

Good Luck!!

Sending you luck; I heard from several people who got it done that its wonderful!

Good luck BEG!!!! Hope everything goes well!

You''re probably done with the procedure by now but GOOD LUCK! It''s awesome to wake up the next day and be able to see without glasses or contacts. I had mine done 2 years ago and loooove it! Remember not to rub your eyes for a week.

How exciting! I can''t wait to read all about it!

Best of luck, I had mine about 2 months ago, and everything is great. You will be out of it for a couple of days, stay off the computer for at least a week!

Thank you so much everyone! All of your dust helped, because I''m back home, up from a 5 hour nap, and able to SEE! Yay!

I know at least a few of you are interested in eventually doing LASIK as well, so I wanted to give a quick rundown of my experience in case it helps.

The procedure itself was painless and quick. I waited for a LONG time - just watching information videos on the procedure, doing paperwork, etc. but when I got into the surgery room, it was over so quickly. the only thing that freaked me out was having to sign the consent form - one section was VERY detailed on what could go wrong...not something that I, with an overactive imagination, want to consider the morning of the surgery!

(but necessary, of course, lol)

I got into the room, and they gave me a stuffed animal to hold. I thought it was funny at first, but then I saw the need - it was nice to clutch something, since I was very nervous. They gave me a lot of numbing drops, and then used the eyelid clamp (I''m forgetting exactly what it was called) to keep my eyes open during the procedure. That was actually the most uncomfortable part, and that wasn''t very uncomfortable - just some pressure to get it into place. I didn''t feel them making the corneal flap - I just had to focus on the blinking light and it was over before I knew it (weird sensation though, when they lifted the flap away -everything went blurry, lol).

The actual laser process was a little weird, mostly because there were these blue flashes of light as the laser worked and the sound and the burnt-hair smell (the doctor assured me that there was no heat involved, despite the smell). My right eye wasn''t quite as fun as the left - a little harder to keep focused on the blinking light, but after a couple minutes, I was done, and the doctor said my corneal flap had been replaced and was in good position.

I have lots of post-op stuff to do - antibiotic drops and artificial tears this week, sunglasses when I go out, and goggles when I shower and sleep so as not to dislodge the corneal flap by accident. I was ok walking out, but my right eye starting prickling pretty badly within 30 minutes or so, as I was on my way home. That was the worst part - I was in tears walking back, with my poor BF not knowing what to do, because I was so uncomfortable (not my left eye, oddly enough - that one was and is perfectly fine). I came home, took a sedative they had prescribed, and went to sleep (with my goggles, lol). I wasn''t too comfortable because my eye was really prickling, and it was hard to keep my eyes open, but when I woke up about an hour ago, I felt much much better.

It is incredible to be sitting here typing this with no glasses, contacts, nothing. I''m using a lot of artificial tears, but that''s normal, and seriously it''s amazing. My right eye is still a little irritated - it feels like I have a dry contact in, but other than that, wow.

And the procedure I ended up doing was the customized Intralase - they recommended that with my level of astigmatism in one eye and my prescription, I was better off with the customized - and I got about $1000 off what it would normally cost me, and ended up paying $3200 for both eyes. Far cry from my friend''s $1500 deal (for both eyes!) doing the same customized Intralase back in the fall, but considering I thought it would be much more, and has a lifetime guarantee, and I can see (yay!) I''m happy.

So once again, thank you all so so much - I really appreciate your well wishes!

And if anyone has any questions on my procedure, I''m all too happy to answer.

-BEG

Glad everything went well and you can see!

I''m sooo glad to hear everything went well. I''ve been thinking, no dreaming, about having that done since I''ve had glasses/contacts for over 20 yrs now. I''ve heard though, that once you near 40, there are other factors to consider since that''s about the age your up-close vision starts to deteriorate (hello reading glasses). What was your prescription before the surgery? I''m also curious to know what your vision will be once everything heals. Also, how difficult was it to fall asleep with your eye feeling so prickly?

Hope the recovery continues to go smoothly for you - rest up and let the BF dote on you. I hear that sparkly jewelry speeds the healing process...

Thanks for sharing your experience BEG - I can''t wait to have this done. So glad to hear you are healing up so well so far!!

Delighted to hear it all went well!

Thanks everyone!

Cellentani, when I went in for my day-after appt, my left eye was 20/20 and my right eye 20/25. The doctor said the right eye will probably get better and my vision should stabilize fairly soon. My right eye was significantly worse than my left (although it was the one that corrected itself of astigmatism - huh). My right one was -5.25 and my left was -2.75, with astigmatism.

it was definitely not fun going to sleep once i got home - I think my body just didn't like the valium, and I was uncomfortable, so I was kind of half-asleep most of the time, and woke up with my heart racing

But last night and the night before, I slept comfortably (well as comfortably as you can with foam padded goggles on!) and while my right eye is still dry (left is totally fine, don't need artificial tears or anything), I'm very comfortable. I am seriously so so so glad I had the surgery - it's incredible waking up and realizing that I can see with no contacts, glasses, etc.

Oh, that''s great news, BEG. Thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions. Hope you get to ditch the goggles soon!

wow that is awesome!! thank you for taking the time to share your experience!! this is something i have wanted to do for years. i am having sinus surgery later this week so maybe we will wait for any more procedures until next year :)

Glad to hear that the procedure went well! Enjoy your new eyes!

Hurray! I missed your request for dust, so dust for your right eye to be as comfortable as your left ASAP.
