How do you feel about having a laser inscription on your diamond?

Not that I''m buying them or anything, but diamonds have become increasingly more interesting to me, so I''ve been trying to figure out what is considered to be better qualities.

I understand that lasered numbers help identify the diamond, but isn''t it better to have a diamond that doesn''t have an inscription?

Hello!

I got my AGS cert number inscribed on the girdle of my stone.

For me, this reassures me that anytime the ring leaves my possession I can be pretty sure I got the same stone back, as I can find and read the inscription with a loupe.

It also meant that I was confident that I got the stone I paid for. I requested that the stone was inscribed, and following inscription the diamond was returned to AGSL in order that they could update the certificate to reflect the fact the diamond had an inscription on the girdle. As AGSL had received the diamond back to update the cert, I figured I had to have been sent the right stone! :)

Here''s AGSL''s take on diamond inscription:

Inscription doesn''t affect the grading result or value of a diamond, and can easily be polished out.

I''m glad I had mine inscribed. :)

I just sent mine back for inscription too. If I have to leave this stone anywhere I want to know I got mine back!

Nobody seems to be bothered by the inscriptions. I''ve asked around and it seems pretty typical to already have it or to have it done. I thought it would be better to have a stone that is au naturel, but I guess it doesn''t matter.

I don''t mind having it on mine at all - that way I always can verify it''s my diamond.

I just asked Jonathan at GOG about laser inscribing mine but based on the setting I am going to get, it wasn''t advised. This is not bc it devalues the stone so much as it would be useless (since I am going to bezel set my stone). He also mentioned that the graphite wears off with steam cleaning.

Personally, I think it makes it easy for identity purposes (assuming you don''t want to identify the stone by mapping the inclusions or lack thereof).
