Who has 'em?? ...please show me! :))

I'm not going to reset anytime soon, but if I do, I want to know that I'd be okay with my J in a six prong setting without having to upgrade. The side view is really all I'm anxious about, as I love the color from the top view. Anyone wanna help?? Feel free to post as many photos as you like and list specs if you know them -- I'd love to see as many angles and light situations as possible!

If you can remember similar rings from older posts, please post those as well! ;))

Thanks!! :wavey:

Sweet!! Thanks m2b!!

Oh, I don't know... I get on tangents. :naughty:

Although I truly love my setting, I don't know if all the pave will be conducive to the new life style when we have children (giving baths, poopie diapers, pureed carrots... LOL). It's something I've been thinking of lately. I would love to upgrade to a larger J (ideally, I'd like to have as close to a 10 mm as possible -- a gal can dream, right?? HA!), but only if I knew I'd be okay with the color, KWIM?? I'm just not ready to give up the finger coverage and bling factor my halo gives if I can't have a significantly larger stone...

I'm afraid I'd have to go with an I for an MRB, but J would be cool for a larger OEC... hmmm.... #firstworldproblems

NOOOOOOO! I love your setting!!! I think you would miss the finger coverage the halo gives you! Not to state the obvious, but wouldn't taking off your ring when you are changing diapers and giving baths be a better solution? :D

Since you have some time before you have a child, I think you should head to a local jeweler to see if you can see a J in a 6 prong setting IRL to make the judgement on what color is ok with you...

Trust me you will be fine with your current setting. I had 2 under 2 and did everything you named above, plus lay 3000 sqft of sod, gardened (without gloves :(sad ) and did many more with my ring set. Anyhow I'm all for upgrading so support you there but just wanted to reinforce that your current set will be just fine with kids!

Thanks, tweeter!! I take off my rings for everything... including washing my hands. I'm just afraid I'll forget with so much going on and my brain being fried and all. LOL   I guess I just need to get over it and not be so worried about dirt, grime, and the worst feeling ever -- water under the ring! UGH!

I'm pretty sure I'd have to get I or better to be happy with the side view, but I've been trying to convince myself otherwise for some time... Of course, if that perfect 10 mm OEC J came knocking at my door, I don't think I could say no!! :cheeky: :naughty:

Thanks SB... that makes me feel better. :)) I can just see how this conversation would go over...

msop: (nonchalantly) Hey honey, I think I'm gonna "downgrade" my setting, but upgrade my stone -- ya know... for practical reasons with the kid(s)...

DH: Ummmm.... you mean change it from the stone and setting that you HAD TO HAVE?? No. Absolutely not.

msop: Oh... okay. :| (continues the search, all incognito...) ;)

Unfortunately, I would be worried about the J color from the side view. I owned a 2+ carat for a few days in a J and the color on the profile really bothered me so I returned it and went with an I. However, the setting I had was VERY open on the side (funny also a Christopher Design), so maybe a 6 prong would work?

Of course if you can convince the hubby into a J 10mm OEC, then heck yeah!!!

Girl, you would die if you went from that maxi halo to a solitaire with the same size stone...you would lose about 4mm of coverage :o you would hate it! That would be way worse than a little dirt now and then. I don't have pave but I wear my rings every day caring for two active boys, and your hands don't get that dirty. I am not sure what you think happens when you change a poopy diaper, but it's not THAT bad  ETA and trust me, when you get $h!t all over your hands, the ring is the least of your concerns :knockout:

Re color, since you don't mind your j surrounded by Melee which highlights body tint in the centre stone relative to how the diamond might look on its own, I can't imagine the super slight tint from the side would bug you. But that's moot because if you went for a solitaire you would be too busy crying from the DSS to notice anything else! maybe if you hated the halo I could see a solitaire as a good choice, but you love your halo!

But a fakey cheepy in the size of your centre stone and wear it a bit then report back. I will bet you won't be happy with it at all.

Just now seeing this -- sorry! :halo: I'm worried about the tint as well... I originally picked a 2 ct I and was totally good with the side view, so I think it would work in that color. I may just have to go into DD and have them show me very similar sized stones in J and I color, so I can see for myself. That's hard though, because there are different "levels" of J color -- UGH!!

I recently got an oval stone RHR in a solitaire setting with baguettes on the sides. It's so simple and elegant... **I NEED, I NEED!!!**

Then I wonder if this is just one of my tangents... ::) :blackeye:

This is true, but there is a method to the madness... :naughty: :naughty: :naughty:
Here's the plan...
The idea is to slowly but surely upgrade without DH noticing -- which he wouldn't if I did it very slowly. I know I'd miss the size at first, but it's driving me crazy and I know my "upgrade plan" won't work with this halo setting!! Any larger and the stone wouldn't fit it anyway. I tried on lots of solitaires and I know 9.3-ish mm is the lowest I could go to begin with... working my way up to a 10 mm of course. ;)) :praise:

My SA and I became very close (he came to my wedding reception!) and he told me this upgrade story about one of his clients who started out with a 2 ct in a substantial (read: thick as he!!) halo. Within 5 years she was rocking a 3.5 ct solitaire, and her DH was none the wiser! HA! He said women do it all the time and it's so funny how the husbands are oblivious to it... everyone's happy.

Since I got both through Diamonds Direct, I can use 100% (110% on diamonds right now) of what I paid for the diamond AND setting to put toward anything in the store. Also, I could always keep my setting (which is probably what I'll do) and use it for a CS for my right hand.

That would be way worse than a little dirt now and then. I don't have pave but I wear my rings every day caring for two active boys, and your hands don't get that dirty. BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!! I seriously just laughed out loud at work...     I have 9 nephews (with 7 under 7years of age) and I have never changed a poopy diaper!! I've hardly held a baby, so I guess I just have this idea that pureed peas and $h!t will just be absolutely everywhere. :errrr: :errrr:

Thanks, Dreamer... I love my setting, but I'm just torn. I want the size (duh!), but I long for a sleeker look, kwim??
Damn it! Why can't I just be rich??!! :| ::)

What do you think is the "magic upgrade" in mm that you would notice a difference from 8.7 (10.5-ish with halo)?? I've heard 0.3 mm, but I didn't know if that only applied with certain sized stones??

Also, can you recommend any vendors that would have a ring with a 8.7-ish round in a CZ?? Seriously. :halo: ;))

Wellll... I am not sure how much of your "plan" is joking? Would you really try to upgrade without telling your husband and hope he didn't notice? There are too many problems with that plan, its hard to even itemize them all!

First, I don't think its a good idea to spend money without telling your partner unless you have "mad money" you mutually agree to be free of such constraints. If you do have such "mad money" and plan to use that for your upgrades, then there should be no need for a secret because I don't think partners should judge how each spends their discretionary income. If your husband likes to control how you spend your discretionary income, then I am not sure hiding how you spend it really avoids the bigger issue at play (i.e., control)? But, if that is how you roll as a couple to avoid conflict, and you don't think it will come back later to bite you in the ass when he finds out you have been lying to him, then... I suppose... to each there own? That's a delicate game to play in a marriage though. I think its a high risk ploy.

If on the other hand you do not have such mad money and large expenses are generally agreed by both partners in your marriage, then I certainly can't countenance spending money without telling your partner! In my relationship, anyway, that would be a violation of trust akin to cheating.

Honestly, I don't think this is an issue to side step. And by "this" I don't mean the upgrade. I mean the large argument about who gets to decide how money is spent in your marriage. Its better to be open about your plans, and if you want to do something he does not support but has no legitimate right to control (as would be the case if you spend your own play money on this project and not communal funds), then I would recommend being open and honest about your plan rather than deceptive. If you want to spend communal funds that he would not approve, then you need to negotiate and convince him.

To be frank, that "plan" you learned from your SA sounds like a recipe for trouble. Follow up in a few years and see if that couple is still happily married.

So, not really what you wanted advice on, eh? ;)) Sorry!

As to buying a fakey, I think you can find fun rings are Nordstroms and Macy's or on ebay.
