Hi,
Can anyone tell me if it is normal for two stones of the same color to look different? I am comparing a 1.22 to a 1.36 carat round brilliant, both H color, both VS2, both ideal cuts. The 1.36 carat looks darker than the 1.22. Is this normal? My preference is to go with the larger stone but if it will look darker or less bright than a smaller stone I may reconsider.

If both stones are called "ideal" this does not mean they are completely identical. I would imagine that the difference you mention is not very obvious though.

What are the stats of the two diamonds ?

Sure, color grading of stones is subjective.

Who knows, you could take in your two "H" stones to an appraiser and have him tell you you brought him a "G" and a "I"

I am certainly NO expert... but I would have to agree w/ Ana... the specs on each stone may be the difference you are seeing. It would be my (humble!) opinion that what you are seeing is perhaps due more to the cut of the stones than the color. If the larger stone is cut deeper... that could cause it to look "darker". I would ask for a sarin report on each stone. Then I would look at and compare each stone under a variety of lighting conditions. Then the fun part: pick the one you like best!
